The ROHbot Report: Worth Your Money: Death Before Dishonor VI, Markham & Dayton Results, Rising Above Taping Preview, St. Louis & Nashville Cards Shaping Up, And More

By James Bullock
Nov 22, 2008 - 10:19 AM

...

We are here for another ROHbot Report full of results, news, and Adam Pearce bashing. No, just kidding. No hate here, “Scrap Daddy.” But I might have some questions regarding the new booking style after some of these results. Interested? You should be. Before we can get to this weekend, we need to look back to Canada, where Markham held the final leg in Canadian swing ROH performed earlier this month.

Markham, Ontario
Estimated attendance around 500
PRE-SHOW MATCH
- Stupefied & Player Uno over Ernie Osiris and The Yellow Ninja
MAIN SHOW
- Davey Richards defeated Jerry Lynn
- Kenny King and Rhett Titus defeated Delirious and Brodie Lee via count out.
- Roderick Strong and Erick Stevens defeated Sweet and Sour Inc. of Go Shiozaki and Eddie Edwards. Strong tapped Edwards in the Stronghold, he and Stevens shook hands post-match.
- Dog Collar Match - Austin Aries defeated Jimmy Jacobs via Last Chancery using the chain. Jacobs bled a ton. The crowd gave Jacobs a big ovation in the post-match.
- Grizzly Redwood defeated Alex "Sugerfoot" Payne
- Bryan Danielson defeated Kenny Omega and Tyler Black in a 3-Way Match when Omega tapped to Cattle Mutilation. Omega was busted open hard way around the eye.
- Ring of Honor World Title Match - Necro Butcher defeated Nigel McGuinness via DQ when the AOTF interfered.
- Ring of Honor World Tag Team Title Match - Kevin Steen and El Generico defeated Jay and Mark Briscoe to retain the titles

As you can see from the results, ROH is still chugging along with great wrestling. While the events of the weekend did see more interference than usual, it makes sense in storyline purposes. The main event was said to be one of the highest intense matches of the year, with The Briscoes coming off as major league heels. But the show stealer was given to the three way. ROHbots there said Omega seemed to be right at home with two of ROH’s top stars, and that’s a wonderful thing to know. Aries and Jacobs have really saved their feud from burnout with their match here (and from the clips courtesy of the latest Videowire). I just want to know, will Delirious win a match anytime soon? But the results don’t stop there. We have to move to this weekend, starting with what happened last night in Dayton.

Pre-Show:
a) Alex "Sugarfoot" Payne & Ninja Blue over Richard Matthews & ???
b) Bobby Dempsey over Ninja Yellow
Main Show:
1) Brent Albright over Davey Richards
~Nigel McGuinness cut a promo where he declared that his 3-Way Title Match was going to be Non-Title.
2) Go Shiozaki over Sami Callahan, Rhett Titus and Grizzly Redwood in a Four-Corner Survival.
3) Jay & Mark Briscoe over Irish Airborne of Jake & Dave Crist; the Briscoes worked as heels and Mark may have injured his knee.
4) Roderick Strong and Chris Hero fought to a No Contest in their Lights Out Match; Larry Sweeney and Sweet and Sour Inc. interfered to force the No Contest.
5) Kevin Steen & El Generico over Jimmy Jacobs & Delirious of Age of the Fall to retain the ROH World Tag Team Titles.
6) Bryan Danielson over Claudio Castagnoli via roll up; Claudio destroyed Danielson post-match with a chair.
7) 3-Way Main Event - Non-Title: Austin Aries over Tyler Black and Nigel McGuinness when Aries pinned Black.

Okay, I’ve tried to defend the slow changes going on in ROH since Gabe’s departure, but I’m upset with some of these results. The main event is first on my list, as it was promoted as a title match. I have no problems that it wasn’t, but it was promoted as such, and the fans were looking for a World title match. They get cheated out of a title match because, I guess, they just wanted an Aries win here, maybe making up for Aries’ possible loss to Jacobs tonight in Chicago. And can Black get some love? Man needs to stop losing in big matches. It’s almost like…CM Punk! Oh my…forget what I said, keep doing your thing with Black. Next up on the hit list is the Lights Out match. How do you have a no contest in a Lights Out match? Interference shouldn’t be a factor in this kind of match when it comes to no contests. Double KO, I could understand, but not the interference crap. And they could’ve easily cheated Strong to a loss due to that interference instead of just going all no contest on us. I’m not just going to sit on the negatives, as Danielson and Castagnoli was said to be some heated goodness, albeit short goodness, but goodness none the less. And, seemingly, ROH has been reading the ROHbot Report and understand how Claudio needs to be booked if they want us to care about him as a heel like we did back in 2006. Or maybe they’re doing it the way they wanted to from the get-go. I don’t know, but I like option #1. With The Briscoes, seemingly, getting ready for a heel turn to get another match with Steen and Generico, I approve. Maybe Chicago will give us a better idea tonight. Here’s how the Rising Above PPV taping has shaped up.

ROH World Title Match
Nigel McGuinness defends vs. Bryan Danielson
Special Challenge Match
Samoa Joe vs. Tyler Black
I-Quit Match
Austin Aries vs. Jimmy Jacobs
Six Man Tag Team War

Roderick Strong, Brent Albright, & ??? vs. Chris Hero, Go Shiozaki, & Davey Richards with Larry Sweeney
SHIMMER Title Match
MsChif defends vs. Sara Del Rey
Grudge Match
Delirious vs. Rhett Titus
Four Corner Survival
Claudio Castagnoli vs. Sami Callahan vs. Silas Young vs. Alex "Sugarfoot" Payne
Also scheduled to appear: ROH World Tag Team Champions Kevin Steen & El Generico, Jay & Mark Briscoe, The Phoenix Twins, plus more.

I have to say that this looks like the strongest pay-per-view in ROH history. If it lives up to what it looks like on paper, it’ll be, hands down, the show of the year. Even though Joe and Black isn’t a part of the PPV, I can’t lie and say I’m not waiting for the result of what could be the launching pad to Tyler Black’s future World title reign. And of course I’m looking forward to the top two matches (even though I think we’ll see some kind of Dusty finish in the World title match), but I’ll be paying close attention to thoughts on the visible production upgrade as it’s been confirmed that ROH is bringing in there whole production crew for this taping. If it’s anything close to what they did when they were filming for “The Wrestler,” then the complaints about the under-whelming production values can halt. My only problem is what is Steenerico going to do? I don’t know if we’ll see something impromptu, or if they’re building to a big pay-per-view rematch between them and The Briscoes. Hopefully it’ll be more than just a squash for the champs.

Nigel McGuinness certainly isn't planning on anyone else carrying the ROH World Title anytime soon other than himself. To that end, we're told the training regiment for both his Dayton championship 3-Way-Dance against Austin Aries and Tyler Black, as well as his highly publicized PPV encounter against Bryan Danielson in Chicago, must be seen to be believed. In fact, it seems that Claudio Castagnoli has been seen sparring and talking strategy with McGuinness. As we all know, Castagnoli is opposing Danielson in a heated grudge match of their own on 11/21 in Dayton!

I like this. We’ve seen over the past few months that people have been aligning with former enemies to face a common enemy. Roderick Strong has done it with Brent Albright and Erick Stevens. Austin Aries and Bryan Danielson have done it in an attempt to win gold from the AOTF. Now Castagnoli is doing it to give, and get, information on Danielson. Maybe he’s getting a little inside information on Nigel too, just incase Danielson is unsuccessful come Chicago. Claudio might have a hard time saying some words in English, but he’s no dummy. His plan might come to light in St. Louis next month.

Scheduled for the ROH debut in St. Louis on December 5th is:
Nigel McGuinness and Claudio Castagnoli vs. Bryan Danielson and TBA
Kenny Omega vs. Kenny King
SHIMMER Women's champ MsChif vs. Daizee Haze

This show is shaping up nicely. I know a lot of people are pointing at Aries as Danielson’s partner, but I don’t think it’ll be him. Why do I feel it might be someone Japanesey? The battle of the Kennys hopefully will give us some good insight if ROH’s investment in these guys as the future is a good idea. And Haze vs. MsChif is always a good thing. ROH is also making its Nashville debut that same weekend.

Scheduled for the ROH debut in Nashville on December 6th is:
ROH Champ Nigel McGuinness vs. Jerry Lynn
The Briscoes and Kenny Omega vs. Kenny King, Sal Rinuaro and Rhett Titus
Shimmer Champ MsChif vs. Daizee Haze vs. Sara Del Rey vs. Serena Deeb

Nigel and Lynn is always a good thing, especially with Lynn’s high popularity in Nashville. With the story that The Briscoes’ frustration with not being able to win the ROH Tag belts back starting to affect them, you have to think that maybe Omega might not be a teammate for long if Dem Briscoes get a little too fired up. As for the women’s match, this might be Deeb’s time to shine, especially with her recent push in Shimmer.

A dream match has been signed for 12/26 in Philadelphia! "American Dragon" Bryan Danielson will oppose the ageless Jerry Lynn in a match with several intriguing title possibilities! If Dragon becomes a 2-Time ROH Champion this weekend, this match could conceivable end up for the World Title!

What a great match that could, and should be. Everyone who has read my stuff knows how much of a fan I am of both men, and this is definitely a dream match for me. Give them 30 minutes and let them run. I doubt we’ll see a better match that night. Well, I might have to take that back.

Signed for Philadelphia on December 26 is a first-time-ever dream match! Austin Aries will oppose Naomichi Marufuji!

Can we say mark-out moment? Out of all the Japanese imports Ring of Honor has brought in over the years, Marufuji has become my favorite. He’s grown leaps and bounds since his debut nearly three years ago against then ROH World champion Bryan Danielson in a match that many called under-whelming. Aries can’t have a bad match, so there’s no way that this match can’t be a late MOTYC.

Takeshi Morishima vs. Bryan Danielson: Final Battle 2008
After a year of waiting, Ring of Honor has signed Danielson vs. Morishima in a Fight Without Honor match at Final Battle 2008, taking place December 27th in Manhattan, New York. If Danielson is the ROH World champion then the title will be on the line.

And you’ve been finally been rewarded for your patience. I know you’ve been wondering when, if ever, we’d get some closure to one of the stiffest rivalries in ROH history. Well, we have it official, and per the stipulation, we get the match we’ve wanted. Pat yourself on the back for helping beg for history.

ROH officials have finally spoken to the Necro Butcher. In a correspondence received within the last 36 hours, Necro confirmed he is still convalescing and doing what he can to heal his injured knee as fast as possible. In what was perceived as a bit of posturing, he refused to give any insight into just how bad the knee is or what the specific injury is. He was, however, willing to confirm that he will be in St. Louis on 12/5 and Nashville on 12/6. "Revenge will be mine," said the Butcher. "I told everyone I'd pile the bodies to the sky, but it looks like I could use a little help. Maybe from someone just as crazy as me."

Necro manned up in a big way in Markham by working through the injury. I hope Necro isn’t in too bad of shape as his stuff with the AOTF is, seemingly, just getting started, and it’s getting really interesting. Adding a partner that could be as crazy as he is adds to that interest. Who could it be? Maybe Necro might have to call on some old CZW friends. Or it could be Bobby Dempsey. I would like it to be Dempsey. It would fit, especially with this news:

If you've looked around ROH recently, you'll have found that many of the ROH students have been given increased roles or new attention. Shane Hagadorn, Bobby Dempsey and then Rhett Titus each in turn was given a focus and a place in ROH. Now Kyle Durden has been tapped to become a regular backstage interview for ROH. In addition, the most recent videowire has also focused on "Dirty" Ernie Osiris, and developing a character for him based on being, well, dirty and bum-like.

Even though I’m not the biggest fan of some of these guys (I’m looking at you Hagadorn), I’m happy this is happening. The point of the ROH wrestling school was to help groom for the future of the company, and the only way to do that is by giving the graduates a shot. This will also help the fans as they’ll get a chance to follow some of these guy’s whole careers, hopefully making it a wonderful moment if they ever make it to the big time.

Cary Silkin is also pushing for a faster turnaround and release for DVDs.

And I couldn’t agree more. I think a lot of ROHbots out there have been begging for this for years. Sometimes it’s hard to keep up with everything since new shows happen by the time shows from two to three months earlier are just being released (like GBH VII was just released, and here we are at the end of November). Hopefully they can cut down production time to a month or so. I think this would easily keep people interested that have been complaining about the lack of up to date shows.

Ring of Honor's contractual commitments with KOCH Vision, in regards to the nationally released DVD line have been fulfilled. At this point, there is no sign of additional releases through KOCH. There are four DVDs on the market, which for now are the end of the series.

While I don’t know exactly how well the DVDs did on the charts, but I know it wasn’t a commercial flop. Most of the time the DVDs were sold out at FYEs around me. I would love for more, but right now it’s not in the books. Hopefully something will come together sooner than later.

Ring of Honor has announced that they are instituting a subscription service for future DVD releases. This will start with the Glory by Honor VII DVD. ROH will be offering 6, 10 and 20 DVD set subscriptions. The price will include shipping, with subscribers receiving each new DVD title as soon as it is released.

I know you ROHbots out there with those deep pockets like this. Even though my wallet isn’t that fat, I appreciate this. It’s one of those things to give the fans a feeling of company loyalty while getting rewarded for being a loyalist. Even though shipping will be counted, I know, as with most subscriptions, the total will be a little cheaper for a subscriber than for the infrequent purchaser.

ROH reached a deal with DirecTV to air not only their PPV shows, but also ROH Classics for OnDemand with ten hours of classic wrestling airing as video on demand.

This is great news for fans past and present. I know a few fans that haven’t had the chance to see the great moments of ROH past because they’re trying to keep up with what’s going on now. Now they have the opportunity. One question: will TNA contracted wrestlers be able to be shown? If not, that is a huge blow to this announcement. Without Samoa Joe and Homicide matches, I think the fans will still miss out on a huge, excellent, part of Ring of Honor’s history. I have hope because I’d doubt they’d make such a decision and not factor in two of the biggest names in the company’s existence.

While I know I promised a review of Driven 2 this Report, my cable provider has upset me so much with it’s screwy tactics that I can’t deliver on that promise. Hopefully I’ll be able to see it before the next Report so I can review it. I might even post it separately on the site during the week. But unlike coughComcastcough, I’m not going to cheat you readers. I went out of my way to make sure I had a review ready. So here it is, Death Before Dishonor VI. Will ROH’s biggest show of the summer be Worth Your Money?

Death Before Dishonor VI

New York, NY

8/2/08

ROH World champion Nigel McGuinness here to talk about how tonight he proves why his reign is the most dominate in ROH history by defeating three of his top opponents ever in the main event.

The Briscoes vs. The Vulture Squad w/Julius Smokes

There’s no real reason to drag this out. While The Vulture Squad did some impressive chain wrestling and dives, it was a Briscoe squash that included multiple double teams, ending with the springboard Doomsday Device on Jigsaw.

Before The Briscoes could leave, Sweet & Sour Inc. entered the building. Sweeney was here for some recruiting, and Mark & Jay was on his list. The Briscoes turned him down without a word. Sweeney wasn’t upset. He had a slew of wins coming to S & S Inc. tonight with three matches in a row featuring his talent. Hero wasn’t nearly as happy as Sweeney because he needed to get some retribution on Delirious after Delirious pinned him the last time they were in NYC.

Chris Hero w/Sweet & Sour Inc. vs. Delirious

Instead of giving Hero the chance to get his game plan ready, Delirious dove on top of all Sweet & Sour Inc. Hero quickly went to the eyes after the match officially started, but Delirious was ready with his wild antics, turning Hero’s strikes into openings for head-butts to the abdomen. Delirious followed up with the never-ending clothesline in the corner. Hero used a high atomic drop to stop Delirious’ momentum before grounding Delirious. Hero tried to use those stiff forearms and elbows to knock Delirious out, but Delirious seemed to be impervious to it. Delirious had the fans behind him, and he was using that energy to fight back. It didn’t work at first, but when Hero tried to pull him off the top, Delirious turned it into a hurricarana. Delirious was hitting the ropes, using his momentum and agility to attack and turn Hero’s attacks against him. After several clotheslines, Hero avoided one, elbowing Delirious so hard his legs buckled. But Delirious refused to stay down. Hero wanted to make sure he did with a combo of forearms and big boots. Delirious still was fighting, hitting another head-butt and the Panic Attack before going for Shadows Over Hell. Hero turned it into a knockout forearm followed by the Roaring Elbow for the pin via KO! YKOK he is! I don’t know why I had a NES Punch-Out flashback that time. Even the referee turned into Mario.

Roderick Strong vs. Eddie Edwards w/Sweet & Sour Inc.

Some evenly matched mat wrestling to open up this contest. Edwards had to get in a couple of head-butts to get the advantage. Roderick was ready with a few chops before slingshot suplexing Edwards like Strong should be named “Tully.” Strong tried to take Eddie over the top, but a distraction from Sweeney stopped that, allowing Edwards to drop Strong with a leg lariat. As Edwards had the referee distracted, Hero got in a couple shots on Strong after Strong’s failure to successfully fight back. Strong did fight back shortly after, but Eddie was able to slip through the ropes after being whipped into the turnbuckles, missile dropkicking the stunned Strong. Very smooth. The battle of the vertical suplex turned into a forearm exchange that ended with Strong forearming Edwards from the apron, to the floor. As the action moved around the ringside area, Strong turned Edwards’ chest beet red. Strong followed up with some more before dropkicking Eddie for a near fall. Eddie blocked the gutbuster, using the backpack chin breaker for a shocking two count. Strong was trying to get something going, but Edwards was just unleashing a row of attacks from chest busters to super kicks. Strong refused to stay down, getting Edwards up for the gutbuster, then the half-nelson back breaker. When Strong tried to go for the Gibson Driver, Sweeney jumped onto the apron, distracting the referee. Chris Hero slipped in, knocking Strong out with an elbow to allow Edwards to pin him.

Sweeney was nothing short of ecstatic with his 2-0 record tonight. The only way to make it better was by having the NWA champion Adam Pearce retain the title over Brent Albright in just a few moments. Adam Pearce was just as proud tonight as Sweeney as he was now in possession of the red leather NWA title belt originally given to Harley Race. The fans were hot for Albright, but Pearce wasn’t. Actually, Pearce wanted to make Albright hot by setting his face on fire again tonight. Albright came out to a great ovation. Albright congratulated Repo Man Jr. and crew for having a nice record so far in NYC, but Albright was ready to add a loss in the Sweet & Sour win column.

NWA title: Adam Pearce (c) w/Sweet & Sour Inc. vs. Brent Albright

Albright was on a roll with a slew of shoulder blocks on Pearce until Hagadorn got involved. Poor Dempsey got caught between a mad Pearce and a ducking Albright, sending Dempsey to the floor. Pearce thought he had his game plan in order after having a quick talk with Sweeney, but Albright was wrestling circles around Pearce while humiliating him with slaps to the face. Albright had Pearce reeling with punches to the face until Pearce got underneath Albright, dropping him throat first across the top rope. Pearce had Albright pinned against the corner, biting away on his face, causing the ref to get between them. Albright was unable to stop Pearce as he head-butted him while the ref wasn’t looking. Albright came out of the corner bleeding, causing Pearce to zero in on the cut. Albright was bleeding horribly, but refused to stop fighting. Pearce used everything from eye rakes to snot rockets to keep Brent down. When the action spilled to the floor, Albright got his head slammed into the steel guardrails before being set up for a piledriver on the floor. Brent prevented it, sending Pearce face first into the steel ring post with the slingshot. Pearce was now bleeding, giving Albright the chance for some retribution. Sweeney, seeing his man was in trouble, ran in to get Pearce disqualified to save the title. Roderick Strong ran in, knocking Sweeney out before pitching Pearce into the ring. The fans were going crazy as Brent pounded on Pearce’s lacerated head. A perfect 61Knee had Pearce open for the Knee Strikes. On the second, Pearce caught the leg, pulling Albright down with the figure four leg lock. Wow Pearce, don’t be so obvious. Albright was able to make it to the ropes to save himself. Once again, Pearce went for the piledriver, but couldn’t execute it, ending up on the mat. Pearce recovered, hitting the belly-to-belly suplex before heading to the top for the splash. Albright kicked out of the pin after the splash, but got locked in the STF as he rolled to his feet. Albright spun out of the move, putting Pearce in the Crowbar. Pearce was close enough to the ropes to stop the submission. Albright climbed to the top, only to get caught and pushed off the top, through the timekeeper’s table on the floor. Pearce begged for a count-out, but Albright somehow made it to the ring before the ten count. Pearce grabbed Albright, hitting the piledriver for a close two count. The crowd was getting hotter as Albright struggled to his feet. Albright turned an Irish whip into the corner into the Half Nelson Suplex. When both men got up, Albright used another suplex, only getting a two count. The crowd is molten by this point. They got up slugging, ending with Albright turning a wild clothesline into series of German suplexes. After an unsuccessful sunset flip, Albright turned a small package into the Crowbar. Pearce tapped out just seconds later, sending the crowd into a frenzy. Albright gets a chance to celebrate after an incredible match.

The Briscoes were celebrating with a couple of beers, talking about roots. Dem roots, you know what I mean. Rhett Titus walked in to show them the video on his phone. The Briscoes didn’t like what they saw, chasing Titus off.

Claudio Castagnoli was in his locker room when the cameraman came into the room. Claudio wasn’t happy about his personal time being interrupted before the biggest match, and hopefully, the biggest moment of his career.

Austin Aries vs. Jimmy Jacobs vs. Necro Butcher

Even though this was a triple threat, Necro and Jimmy were still in the same faction and were working as such. Aries countered this by separating the two, knocking Necro down on the floor with the heat seeking tope, and tomahawk chopping Jimmy off of his feet in the ring. Aries followed up with a gutbuster, then the power drive elbow, trying to pin Jimmy while watching for Necro. Jimmy was able to claw Aries in the eyes, calling for some help from Necro. Necro took a little too long, but Jimmy fought Aries down anyway. When Necro tried to enter the ring with a chair, Aries whipped Jimmy into Necro, sending him to the floor again. Necro didn’t know what happened as Jimmy and Aries slugged away in the ring. Jacobs speared Aries down, only to find an angry Butcher coming after him. Jacobs calmed Necro down long enough for Butcher to continue to attack Austin. After Necro helped Jimmy hit the senton off the top, Necro went for the pin as Jimmy celebrated. Jacobs pulled Necro off Aries, scolding him. Jacobs reiterated that Necro was his soldier, not the winner of a match. Jacobs wanted Necro to blind Aries right now, but Necro wasn’t having it. Jacobs pie-faced Necro, allowing Aries to hit him in the back with a chair. When Necro turned around, he found Jacobs with the chair due to Aries throwing it to him. Necro was upset, to say the least. Necro went right hook crazy on Jacobs, sending the crowd into a frenzy. Aries played dead as Necro crowned Jacobs with a chair shot. When Necro left the ring, Aries got up, dropkicking Jacobs as he rose in the corner. Aries followed up with the Brain Buster, then the 450 Splash to win this interesting match.

Daizee Haze was in the back talking about her return when the Motor City Machine Guns greeted her. They were awestruck by Daizee’s beauty. Struck enough to make a proposal: For Daizee to be the meat in a Motor City sandwich! Daizee turned them down quickly, causing the Guns to move on to their opponents for the evening, Kevin Steen and El Generico. You see, the Guns have something Steenerico don’t: a win over The Briscoes. That means Steen and Generico don’t have a chance against them.

Bryan Danielson was excited about the unpredictability of tonight’s main event.

Before we could continue the show, Delirious, with a black button down shirt, and a green and balk necktie on, came out to call out Daizee Haze to go out on a date with him. Before he could get an answer, out came Rhett Titus. The fat chicks were all over Titus as he came out. Titus wanted to know why Delirious would ask out used goods like Haze. She’s so used, Titus airbrushed her face onto his tights. Delirious didn’t take kindly to this, beating Titus out of the ring. Delirious still wanted to go out with Haze, but she turned him down. Oh, that’s not cool! That’s what chicks that have their faces painted on other guy’s tights do to you. They break your heart.

Naomichi Marufuji vs. Go Shiozaki

Both men tried to use their greatest attributes in the early going, Marufuji’s agility and Go’s strength. Neither worked enough to get a solid advantage. It wasn’t until Marufuji fell into a forearm exchange, which Go took the chance to unleash some knife-edge chops. One was so powerful that it knocked Marufuji off the ropes, to the floor. Marufuji had to take in some pain to get in dropkick that sent Go to the outside. Shiozaki was ready for Naomichi’s asai moonsault, tripping him up before hitting a running knee to the side of Marufuji’s head. Every time Marufuji tried to flip, spin, or counter his way out of something, Go would catch him, driving him into the mat. Marufuji had to stop himself on the ropes after a whip, dumping Go onto the apron. Marufuji followed up with the DDT on the apron, allowing Marufuji to ram Go’s loopy head into the steel guardrails. Naomichi wasn’t done as he picked Go up, brain busting him on the apron. Go was hurting after the neck-compressing move. Naomichi began to focus on the neck, hoping to make Go tap. Shiozaki refused to stay down, trying to chop his way out of a bad situation. Naomichi wouldn’t allow it, knocking Go down before standing on him. Go was able to use a hurricarana to finally chop Marufuji again. Go used a couple of running chops and a knee in the corner to set him up for the big knee off the top. Naomichi recovered, using the flashback dropkick to down Go again. Going after the neck again, Naomichi Russian leg swept Go into the turnbuckles before using a snap mare neck breaker. Marufuji waited until Go got vertical before super kicking him for a near fall. Go somehow blocked Naomichi’s next attack, executing the fisherman buster. Go wanted to make Marufuji to tap, but had to power bomb him into the top turnbuckle instead. Naomichi tried to use the flashback clothesline to free himself from the onslaught of Go’s chops, but ran into a dragon sleeper. The action spilled onto the apron, where Marufuji got a hold of Go’s head, hitting the Shinurai to the floor. Go could barely make it into the ring. When Go got in, he accidentally put himself in position for the coast-to-coast dropkick. Go somehow broke free of a second Shinurai, chopping him down before hitting the Go Flasher. Naomichi blocked the second Flasher, using the Shinurai again. Marufuji got up, hitting the flashback clothesline, but got his super kicks swatted away. Marufuji pulled Go to the mat, stomping the back of his head. Go refused to stay down, leading to a chop/super kick exchange, ending with Naomichi pinning Go with the Pole Shift.

Tyler Black explained how the reign of Nigel McGuinness has become nothing short of a crusade, full of victims. Black wasn’t a victim of it after his loss. He’d become better because of it, and he refused to lose again tonight.

Kevin Steen & El Generico vs. Motor City Machine Guns

Generico was able to outwrestle Sabin in the early moments of the match, bringing in Shelley, who executed the dreaded chop to the butt after tying Generico up. Generico recovered from the bowel-excreting move to hurricarana Shelley. Steen came in, ready to chop Sabin, who had tagged in after Shelley forced Generico into the Guns corner. Steen had the size to power Sabin down, but Sabin had the speed to do the same to Steen. Steen used the Guns own double-teaming against them, sending Sabin face first into Shelley’s boot. Steenerico used a little two on one themselves with a drop toehold into Steen’s somersault leg drop. Upset over the abuse of his partner, Shelley spit on Steen. Steen countered with a snot rocket. Snot and spit was a flyin’, Tony! Generico tagged back in, only to get pulled to the mat, allowing Sabin to tie him up and Shelley to come in for the stereo kicks. The Guns were in complete control, using some quick tags, quick double teams, and some twisted submissions to keep Generico grounded. Generico had to use Sabin’s head to his advantage, sending it into Shelley’s groin to go for the tag. Before Generico could bring in Steen, Sabin pulled Steen off the apron. Generico wouldn’t be stopped, using a victory roll to spring himself into the corner for the tag. “Mr. Wrestling” back dropped Sabin across the ring before kicking the middle rope into Shelley’s jewels. Poor Shelley, no jewels for you. Steen was beating up both Guns with ease. When Steen locked in the Sharpshooter on Sabin, Generico ran in, diving on top of Shelley to prevent him from breaking up the submission. Sabin did make it to the ropes, kicking Generico while crotching Steen on the top rope. Shelley super chin broke Steen before Sabin power bombed Generico into him. The Guns followed up with stereo enzuguris on Generico, but couldn’t stop Generico as he forced both men in the corner for two yakuza kicks. The second didn’t hit Sabin well enough, allowing Sabin to use one of his own. Steen ran in, downing Sabin with the pump handle neck breaker in position for the Swanton. Sabin got the knees up, causing Shelley to run in and drop Steen with an air raid crash. Generico was stuck on he top rope, with Sabin trying to pull him off. Generico fought him, but got kicked in the back of his head by Shelley. Sabin hurricarana’ed Generico off the top, onto Steen for a near fall. Shelley wanted Super Slice Bread on Generico, but Generico was fighting it. Steen cannonballed Sabin, putting him in the Sharpshooter as Generico hit the turnbuckle Brain Buster on Shelley. Sabin tried to hold on, but eventually tapped out.

The Briscoes were still celebrating when Daizee Haze came in to offer her help with the Age of the Fall. The Briscoes for some reason couldn’t look Daizee in the eyes before leaving on a beer run.

El Generico ran into the locker room with Kevin Steen, happy about their win tonight. Steen wasn’t so happy because he still doesn’t have gold around his waist. Until that happens, Steen ain’t happy.

ROH World title: Nigel McGuinness (c) vs. Bryan Danielson vs. Tyler Black vs. Claudio Castagnoli

Some mat wrestling between Danielson and Claudio start this thing off before Black ran in, diving on top of Danielson after Nigel got involved and the action spilled to the floor. Claudio followed Black’s plan, tope’ing Nigel. Nigel recovered, jumping Black from behind, only to retreat to Danielson when it seemed Black was getting the best of him. Danielson tried to cave Black’s chest in with kicks, until Nigel tagged himself back in. Black chopped McGuinness a couple of times, causing Nigel to tag out to Claudio. Black was fighting with vigor when Nigel tagged him out to dropkick the hurting Claudio. Once again, when Claudio fought back, Nigel tagged out. Danielson was the recipient of the tag this time. After a quick European uppercut exchange, Black tagged out the downed Danielson. Nigel tagged himself in via Tyler after Black had Claudio on his back. Claudio fought back, causing Nigel to make a run for the tag. Black and Danielson were ready, jumping off the apron to prevent Nigel’s plan from continuing. Claudio was uppercutting Nigel around the ring before getting a near fall with the Waterslide. Nigel was able to send Claudio and Black to the floor when Black rushed in. Danielson caught the champ with a missile dropkick to a great ovation. Claudio slipped back in, beating Danielson down before getting dropkicked by Black. Nigel DDT’ed Black, only to get downed by Danielson and a German suplex. Danielson locked in Cattle Mutilation on Nigel, elbowing McGuinness in the side of his head when Nigel refused to give up. Claudio broke it up with a German suplex. Black tried to use a highflying move on Claudio, but got enzuguri’ed. Danielson rolled Claudio into the arm breaker when Claudio came after him. On the other side of the ring, Nigel put Black on the top rope, hitting the Lariat. Danielson and Nigel were slugging away in the middle of the ring. Nigel used a Lariat to get a near fall on Danielson. Danielson avoided a second one, forearming Nigel to the floor. Danielson climbed to the top, diving on top of Nigel as he laid in the front row. When Danielson tried to reenter the ring, Claudio caught him in the big swing. Danielson turned it into a cradle for a near fall. Claudio counted with the flapjack European uppercut, but couldn’t follow up as Danielson small packaged him right after for our first elimination.

Claudio was highly upset, and so were the fans, telling Claudio to leave. Claudio appeared to be leaving when he bicycle kicked Danielson. Claudio went on the rampage, Ricola Bombing Danielson before grabbing a chair. Claudio put the chair on the back of Danielson’s head, stomping it. Danielson was out cold as Claudio fought everyone who tried to pull him to the back. Nigel entered the ring to find an unconscious Danielson. Nigel turned Danielson inside out with the Lariat to eliminate the “American Dragon.”

Nigel was so happy until Black clotheslined him. The crowd was going wild as Black kicked and forearmed Nigel off of his feet. Black’s momentum ended when Nigel avoided a frog splash. Naomichi Marufuji was now on the ramp, watching Black fight his way into the frog splash. Nigel recovered quickly, using the short arm Lariat to get another two count. Nigel put Black on the top, hitting the Tower of London for a near fall. Black was able to turn the Jawbreaker Lariat into a power bomb into the turnbuckles. Somehow Nigel kicked out of Black’s follow up pin, but Black was still in it. Black rolled through a superplex into Paroxysm for a close two count. Black tried to forearm Nigel into something, but ran into another Lariat. Once again, Black blocked the Jawbreaker Lariat, using God’s Last Gift for the closes near fall yet. McGuinness moved in time to avoid the Phoenix Splash, using another Lariat. Of course, Black refused to stay down. Nigel used the Tower of London to set up for the Lariat. Black kicked out again! When Nigel went for the top rope Lariat, Black ducked, springing off the top. Nigel Lariated him out of the sky, but couldn’t get the three count! Nigel hooked Black in the London Dungeon, but got rolled up. Black ran to his feet, into another Lariat, then another to give Nigel the 1, 2, 3. Trash began to fill the ring as Nigel celebrated, wondering who could be next on his list of unsuccessful challengers.

Is It Worth Your Money: I’ve seen quite a few shows this year, especially Ring of Honor’s biggest ones, but man, did this show just blow all of them away. It started off hot with The Briscoes squash. Hero and Delirious, which was said to be a poor match live, was quite entertaining here. Eddie Edwards impressed me tremendously in his match. The NOAH stars contest and the tag team dream match were very similar, with high intensity with some high impact stuff that just had me on the edge the whole time. The tag match had a great story, and I would love to see a rematch. I love the way they worked the Necro storyline into the triple threat match, and it worked perfectly. Then there’s the World title matches. One was a very old-school heat getting kind of match, while the other was a four way beautiful car crash with an emotional build. And both were spectacular. I would have to give the nod to Pearce & Albright for the match of the night as I haven’t been so enthralled in a title match like that in years. It just had all the right elements, and it paid off like I could’ve never imagined. The main event was incredible with all the little stories interwoven in there. Claudio’s heel turn was magnificent, and Black, well, he’s just Black. And everyone needs to see how pimp Sabin and Shelley are. Overall, I have to say that this show is sitting atop the mountain for ROH as show of the year. ROH Death Before Dishonor VI Is Worth Your Money.

Well, that’s it for this week. Keep your eyes open to rohwrestling.com this holiday. ROH is known for its Black Friday sale where offers are plentiful.
