Another weekend here, and you know what that means. Yes, The ROHbot Report (full-edition) is back to give you the news you need to know when it comes to Ring of Honor. Of course The Final Countdown Tour is still going on to give Bryan Danielson and Nigel McGuinness. This week the train runs through the Midwest, starting with Dayton last night. Lets see what happened.

Preshow

Tony Kozina & O'Reilly d. Bravado Brothers: O'Reilly made one of the brothers tap out
Tim Donst & Bobby Dempsey d. Andy Ridge & Jordan McIntyre

Sal Rinaruo d. Alex Payne

Main show

1) Eddie Edwards beat Brent Albright. Edwards wins with help from Davey

2) Dark City Fight Club beat House of Truth
3) Grizzly Redwood beat Jimmy Rave by DQ due to Nana interference. Necro made the save.
Big post match brawl for like 5 mins
4) Davey Richards beat Claudio Castagnoli with code red
5) The Briscoes beat The Young Bucks
Aries, Brown, and Silas Young just arrived due to car trouble
6) Rasche Brown beats Silas Young
7) Petey Williams and Colt Cabana beat Austin Aries and Rhett Titus when Colt pinned Titus. Petey hit the Canadian Destroyer on Aries prior to victory
8) Chris Hero pins Bryan Danielson after rolling elbow to back of the neck

Don’t know what to say about this show. I haven’t heard much about it from the ROHbots that attended. And the sad part, I don’t think I will. From the reports, the attendance was barely 300 people, which is pretty disappointing, even for a Dayton show. Usually the Dayton shows average about 500 to 600 people. I could easily say that people didn’t go because of the bad economy, and entertainment that involves traveling isn’t a priority. But gas prices are down compared to those shows a few years ago when people were selling out venues, and it’s Danielson’s last few ROH shows. Dayton doesn’t like Danielson? I don’t think that’s the case either. Our own Matt Dawgs recently went to the latest set of TV tapings in Philly, and the attendance was about the same as a “B” town like Dayton. That makes me question who’s going to the shows now. Are the die-hard loyalists leaving, and the fly-by-night fans looking for a good time taking over the audience, replacing out those who feel the product they love is gone. I’m hoping Ring of Honor hasn’t alienated the foundation of its fan base, because without it, it’ll never survive.

As for the results, everything looks good. Aries and Petey’s thing is heating up, and Davey and Hero are looking like future faces of the company. The Briscoes vs. The Young Bucks didn’t surpass expectations from the little I’ve heard. I had a bad feeling that this would happen. It should be a good rematch when it happens, but it has to happen when they aren’t on a card where they’re not the showcase. Hopefully ROH can recover in Chicago tonight.

Saturday night in Chicago Ridge, IL at the Frontier Fieldhouse

* ROH champion Austin Aries vs. Bryan Danielson
* Jay & Mark Briscoe vs. ROH Tag Team Champions The American Wolves
* Dog Collar Match - The Necro Butcher vs. Jimmy Rave
* Colt Cabana vs. Claudio Castagnoli
* Dark City Fight Club vs. The Young Bucks
* Petey Williams vs. Rhett Titus
* The House of Truth vs. Brent Albright & TBA
* Also scheduled are Silas Young and "Skullkrusher" Rasche Brown
* Bret Hart, Bryan Danielson, Nigel McGuinness meet and greet.

Originally, the main event was supposed to be Aries vs. Petey Williams, but after changing the NYC main event next weekend, ROH decided to not lose the chance to have Aries/Danielson in ROH for, possibly, the final time. And I have no qualms about it. I don’t see Aries dropping the belt anytime soon after the change, so Petey will have his chance sooner than later. Another couple of champions I don’t expect to lose the gold any time soon (or at least not this weekend) is The Wolves. I don’t know why they just didn’t wait until after Glory By Honor to give us The Briscoes vs. The Wolves. If The Wolves are still champions, then we could have an unpredictable title match. Instead, we’re getting a warm up for something in the future, which isn’t the worst thing. I just wish it were happening on a bigger stage, because it’s one of the last tag team dream matches in ROH. Even though they’ve been feuding for a while, I don’t understand why Butcher and Rave are in a Dog Collar match. I mean, I know how they threw it together, but it feels just like that. The last time we saw Rave in a match of that type, it was a good night for him going over a certain WWE World champion. While Necro is nowhere near the star caliber of Punk at the time, a bloody survival by Rave could bring back those memories of him that had everyone chanting, “Die, Jimmy, die,” with a passion. The rest of the card looks solid. It could be just that, but I have a good feeling that Chicago is going to bring the best out of everyone.

The Nigel McGuinness vs. Roderick Strong bout, which was to take place on September 26th, will now take place on the 25th in Boston.

Glad they’re not scrapping the whole match to make room for the next night. Nigel and Roderick are two of the best, shining examples of what ROH used to be, and what it has evolved into. I still say their clash on pay-per-view for the ROH World title was one of the best matches of last year. I don’t think they’ll be able to top it in Boston, but I doubt they won’t try.

At the September 26th Glory by Honor event in New York City, Bryan Danielson will face Nigel McGuinness one last time in ROH. September 26th will be the last night in ROH for both men.

When the news came that Danielson was leaving, an uproar came from the Ring of Honor community over the fact that Danielson’s last few matches didn’t involve in any way, shape, or form, his greatest rival in Ring of Honor, Nigel McGuinness. With Nigel’s emanate departure becoming true, ROH did the only thing it could: give the fans a going away match for the history books. Looking back now, it seems everything was made for them to walk out of ROH at the same time after the same match. Bryan Danielson’s reign as ROH World champion was first tested to the max by then Pure champion Nigel McGuinness, someone people didn’t really think had much of a chance dominating Danielson as much as he did. Their wars over the past three years are the stuff of legend, and I hope that when it’s all said and done, ROHbots will hold their classics as high as the Joe/Punk trilogy. While Joe and Punk helped propel Ring of Honor into another level in terms of awareness to the entire wrestling community, Nigel McGuinness and Bryan Danielson cut a pace that showed how ROH had some of the finest wrestling in the world that couldn’t be matched. For those who are going to NYC for this one, please soak in the moment of two of ROH’s greatest ambassadors doing what they do better than a majority of everyone else who laces up a pair of wrestling boots.

Austin Aries will be defending the ROH Title at the September 26th Glory by Honor event in New York City, but no opponent has been announced yet. They have been doing a thing where Aries picks a name out of a hat and defends the title, and they may do that here.

My original hope was Bryan Danielson would beat Aries for the title in their scheduled title match, leading to a tournament over the vacant championship, ushering a new era in ROH. Now we have Aries defending the belt against someone, maybe through a lottery drawing (something I’ll talk about later). A hard fought contest against a mystery opponent worthy of a shot at the big time could give us just as much hope as Danielson winning and vacating the title. Or maybe not.

According to Pwinsider.com, ROH has sold out the September 26th Glory By Honor event in New York City's Manhattan Center. The event will be headlined by Ladder War II, which will see ROH Tag Team champions The American Wolves vs. Kevin Steen and El Generico. The event will also be the final appearances for Bryan Danielson and Nigel McGuinness.

I honestly can’t remember the last time Ring of Honor has sold out an event. I’m a little disappointed that they’re not holding the event in the Hammerstein. While it’s all in the same building, a special air comes from the Hammerstein that produces must see events for any company. I would love to say that one venue is superior to the other, but that would make me argue that the Manhattan Center has a better track record for hosting amazing shows, including my favorite of all time, Glory By Honor V: Night 2 back in 2006. It’s funny that Nigel and Danielson were involved in the two most important matches of that card.

- The following matches have been announced for the October 9th show in St. Louis:
* The American Wolves vs. The Young Bucks
* Tyler Black vs. Chris Hero

I recently watched Black vs. Hero from The Homecoming II, and I must say they delivered in spades, stealing the show in this humble ROHbot’s opinion. I highly doubt they won’t be able to follow up with something just as good in St. Louis. Like The Briscoes vs. The Wolves tomorrow night, I could make an argument that The Bucks vs. The Wolves should happen a little later. But I don’t know if The Wolves will even be the champs when this match happens. With or without the title, The Wolves will be able to give some serious rub on The Bucks if and when they have an incredible match with this generation’s Rock & Roll Express. Is it just me, or did a part of the last sentence just didn’t sound right. Yeah, I’m just seeing things.

The following matches have been announced for the October 10th show in Indianapolis:
* Tyler Black vs. Kenny King
* The Young Bucks vs. The House of Truth

If The House isn’t coming in to be a full-time part of the roster, I can see The Bucks getting a win off of them after taking a loss the night before. I’ve heard a lot of good things about The House of Truth, and I hope they are all that and then some. Enough good to great tag teams in your company is never a bad thing. Isn’t that right, Vince?

Kenny King vs. Tyler Black looks good, and I would love to see something unpredictable like King winning happen. But I think Black will continue to ride the wave of meaningless wins that won’t lead to any title shots, or getting the heat he had last year that had the fans proclaiming him as the next ROH World champion. Maybe they can get Black back on track, but it’s going to take more than just a few wins over guys not on his level to do it.

ROH announced today that GHC Jr. Heavyweight Champion KENTA will be returning to the company in November for a set of ROH on HDNet tapings. KENTA will also appear in Edison, NJ on November 7th and in Michigan on the 13th and 14th.

I like me some KENTA. The guy just doesn’t know how not to deliver. Hopefully he’ll have a nice slew of fresh opponents to kick around. Really, I don’t even need fresh. Just let him and Davey Richards tear into each other every night. And if Petey’s around, throw him into there too.

D'Lo Brown has been re-hired by TNA as an agent. [Credit: Prowrestling.net]

I don’t know what this means for ROH and Brown’s relationship. Come to think of it, I haven’t heard much of Brown coming to any ROH events since he missed that show to help his wife give birth. Maybe ROH and Brown were over before this even came out.

ROH has released a new Bryan Danielson DVD, called Rise to Glory, featuring the following matches:
1. Bryan Danielson vs. Spanky...Best of the American Super Juniors- 4/24/05
2. Bryan Danielson vs. James Gibson...(ROH World Title Match) Glory By Honor IV- 9/17/05
3. Bryan Danielson vs. Nigel McGuinness...(ROH World Title vs. Pure Title Unification Match) Unified- 8/12/06
4. Bryan Danielson vs. KENTA...(ROH World Title Match) Glory By Honor V Night 2- 9/16/06
5. Bryan Danielson vs. Takeshi Morishima...(ROH World Title Match) Manhattan Mayhem II- 8/25/07
6. Bryan Danielson vs. Tyler Black...Breakout 1/25/08

I don’t know if this had been in the works for a little while or if it was just thrown together to get some good DVD sales during Bryan’s going away tour. Honestly, if it’s not the latter, then I must say this is a very disappointing set. That’s not to say the matches aren’t good. Actually, they’re very good, with two being absolutely marvelous (vs. McGuinness and vs. KENTA). If this isn’t just something for the Final Countdown Tour, then it should’ve been a compilation spanning at least two disc, with six hours of some of Danielson’s best. And two discs are really cutting Danielson short, so to only have one feels like a cheap disappointment. If ROH really wants this thing to fly off the shelves, push it as a limited edition set that will only be available while supplies last. I know this might sound like they’d be losing money by only having a set amount of DVDs to sell, but I guarantee a majority of the ROHbots reading this already have these matches. Making the set a limited edition DVD might make the fly-by-night fans who have been impressed with “Dragon” on TV to order.

According to Pwinsider.com, Sal Hamaoui has left Ring of Honor. Hamaoui is the promoter of Full Impact Pro Wrestling and has been the one editing and duplicating the ROH DVDs for release. Those behind the scenes say that Hamaoui worked very hard, and that most will not understand how important his contributions to the company have been since 2003 when he joined the company.
- ROH commented on the change, saying that they were bringing the editing of the DVDs in house.
- There is no official word on what this means for the ROH/FIP relationship.
- There could also be a change in the ROH announce team for the DVD releases. Lenny Leonard and Dave Prazak are not based out of the Northeast, where the editing will now take place. The company could bring them in to do the announcing, but there is no word on that yet either.

Very interesting indeed. I don’t really know how much difference it’ll make for ROH to do their work in Bristol compared to Sal in regards of release speed and production. Production could be greatly affected by Dave Prazak and Lenny Leonard. I don’t know how much traveling they have to do to edit and dub on DVD releases now, but I really don’t think it’ll change that much here. That brings me to ROH’s relationship with FIP. ROH has used FIP as somewhat of a breeding ground, bringing in people like Erick Stevens and Kenny King after they got a good amount of seasoning in FIP. It also became a place for ROH stars to spread their, and the company’s, name to another region of the country. Hopefully this leaving of Hamaoui won’t negatively affect what has been a very fruitful relationship.

From DVDs to TV, lets welcome back the Rights and Wrongs of this week’s episode of ROH On HDNet.

ROH on HDNet 09.14.09 QUICK RESULTS

:

The Young Bucks defeated Dark City Fight Club

Bison Smith defeated Sal Rinuaro

Colt Cabana defeated Joey Ryan

The Briscoes vs. Kevin Steen & El Generico ended in a No Contest

Right:

Announcement of Danielson’s Upcoming Departure: The opening of this week’s show informed us that Bryan Danielson is leaving for WWE. It was a nice quick touch on the man who has given so much to Ring of Honor while telling every fan to make sure you go see Danielson during his last trip in ROH.

The Young Bucks vs. Dark City Fight Club: This was the first match since Jon Davis has been medically cleared. Even though they hadn’t been in the ring for a while together, the Fight Club just dominated their much smaller opposition. But I’ve been saying for a while that The Bucks wrestle like a young Rock & Roll Express, and they played that up very well in this one while making a great comeback after being abused. In the end, The Bucks got a surprise victory over Fight Club. I wasn’t upset over the fact that The Bucks ended Davis and Chavis’ undefeated streak on HDNet. I just wish Davis would’ve taken the fall since he was the injured one. The other reason I wasn’t upset over the little guys winning is because both teams have a tremendous upside, and a loss to either could build for something great in the future. Maybe The Bucks will have the DCFC’s number, leading up to a great clash if and when either team wins the Tag Team championship.

Slap The Porpoise (Bison Smith vs. Sal Rinuaro): Nana introduced his “Manslaughterer” Bison Smith to the HDNet viewing audience by having him…well, slaughter Sal. It was short and sweet, and Smith looked like a monster, which is just what The Embassy needs right now to fight back the larger wrestlers in their feud against Cabana’s troops.

A-Double, L-Double: Austin Aries’ running gimmick at the live events have seen him picking names out of a hat to give us a title match. And now he’s bringing it to television. I’ve always loved the unpredictability of special challenge matches by champions. Anything can happen, even when it doesn’t look like it could. Just like when Aries won the title the first time. The Austin Aries Lucky Lottery might make a shining star in ROH.

The Briscoes vs. Kevin Steen & El Generico: If you don’t know this, you might be slow, but these two teams have a lot of history, giving us some of the best tag matches in ROH history, including Ladder War. Well, they came through with another marvelous contest that had a great chance of setting the ladder (pun intended) of who’s next in line to face the Tag champs, The American Wolves. The match was high octane and had an incredible sense of importance between the two teams. In the end, The Wolves stuck their noses in it, ending another spectacular main event. The no-contest didn’t take away from everything that happened before the final bell rang. Actually, it set up for something just as exciting: Ladder War II between The American Wolves and Steenerico. Not only did they deliver a great match, but also a spectacular announcement for a live event for people that can easily drive to see the show.

Wrong:

Colt Cabana vs. Joey Ryan: Nothing was inherently wrong with this match from an in-ring perspective. Actually, it was a very solid contest that wouldn’t be in this section if not for the booking. The problem is Colt won. I have no problem with Colt winning, but the guy really hasn’t looked vulnerable at all in this feud. Cabana fought off three people to win this battle (as he did a couple of weeks ago to win for his team), and then Bison Smith never came to the ring to extract some revenge. I mean, he’s right in the building (unlike the other time). You can’t tell me Osiris couldn’t run to the back and tell him what just happened. Bison didn’t have to get his hands on Colt, but at least make the Embassy come off as a well informed unit, ready to take down all their enemies.

Nigel McGuinness’ in-crowd promo: Like Cabana and Ryan, nothing was really wrong with this promo. It was very unique, and I liked Nigel’s twist into devil’s advocate by making the wrestlers think that maybe they’re giving a little too much to a bunch of blood thirsty fans. The problem is I highly doubt this will be completely fleshed out, let alone followed all the way through due to Nigel leaving. I hate to say they should’ve cut the segment because I don’t fully know where they’re going with it, and if it does have a resolution before Nigel leaves. If they do close it up during Nigel’s last appearances, well, SLAP ME WITH A PORPOISE!

Overall: Once again, ROH on HDNet gives us another solid week of wrestling topped off by an incredible main event that is worth seeing by any wrestling fan. I must say that the tag team division hasn’t been as fresh and exciting than this in I don’t know how long. We’ve got great champions, healthy Briscoes and Steenerico, fresh teams like The Young Bucks, King & Titus, and the DCFC, giving us a nice amount of possibilities for amazing match-ups and moments. Austin Aries’ lottery could do the same for the World title division. If someone new can take Aries to the limit, or even surprisingly win, ROH could make up for the lack of depth that’s stagnated main events for a while. Some very good stuff this week, but nothing you’d need to see to keep up with everything that’s going on. But the main event is definitely is worth a watch at least once.

Well that’s all for this week. If you don’t know already, you can show your support of The ROHbot Report by joining the Facebook group (

Till Then.
