WWE SuperStars SuperReview: Swagger and Miz vs. Primo and Kofi, Dolph Ziggler vs. Slam Master J, Sheamus vs. Yoshi Tatsu, and More
By Jamie Kennedy
Have you come to a crossroads in your life when one of the highlights of your week is reporting on the WWE's 'D' show? The answer? I don't care! I always have a lot of fun with this program and it invariably throws up some excellent entertainment. Just the ticket then to let me wind down after a hard week battering drums with kids of all ages. SNAZZY INTRO ALERT! And we get a nice split screen image of Chris Jericho and CM Punk, which will inevitably make my good friend Richard pass out. Happy Birthday to the big guy for tomorrow too, more celebrations to come before we pass out all over again – for different reasons..
I will give you one guess who is going to win this one. Really not all that interested in this one as we know Kane is not going to lose to Mr. Wang Yang and squash matches aren't all that fun. Seriously, Kane does not need squash matches to get over anymore. Nor does he need these easy victories to build him up for The Great Khali this Sunday. Typical squash bout which was thankfully over rather quickly. Post match, “The Big Red Machine” laced poor Jimmy with a Singapore cane – which never fails to look convincingly painful! WINNER: Kane
Meanwhile.. · Nice little hype video for WWE Breaking Point this Sunday. The package talked about the WWE Championship “I Quit” Match between title holder Randy Orton and John Cena. I am actually looking forward to this one as I'm a big fan of the “I Quit” stipulation.
Battle #2 – Sheamus vs. Yoshi Tatsu Something would be amiss if I didn't again state how much love I have for Matt Striker on commentary. His over-descriptiveness of each character in the ring is more than appreciated. This bout was just about the same length as the previous one but packed way more action, drama and excitement into that 5 minute timeslot. I'm really liking both these men and I think the crowd in attendance share those sentiments judging by the booing for Sheamus and the chants of “Yoshi! Yoshi!” which reverberated around the arena. In the end-up however, it was the “Celtic Warrior” who scored the pinfall victory with a sweet “Celtic Curse”. Good stuff! WINNER: Sheamus
Battle #3 – Katie Lea Burchill vs. Nikki Bella Always good to see Katie Lea on television and it's equally as nice that the Divas get a little time each week here on Superstars to show what they can do. Nice idea! Well that was enjoyable. Short and sweet but this usually = good TV match. I really wish Katie Lea would get a Womens/Divas Title reign someday but it doesn't look forthcoming. You never know however, her time may still come. “Nikki” got the victory by switching with her sister Brie out of the referees line of sight. Brie nailed Katie with a beautiful diving cross body from the top turnbuckle for the 1-2-3! WINNER: “Nikki” Bella
Smackdown Rebound · Smackdown rebound? SMACKDOWN REBOUND!? Is this a new thing or has yours truly been living under a rock for the past god knows how long? Anyway, little recap of what happened on last weeks show which saw the return of The Undertaker. “The Deadman” blasted World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk with a chokeslam through the announce desk. Fingers crossed Punk will get a good showing at Breaking Point when he inevitably drops the strap to 'Taker.
Battle #4 – Dolph Ziggler vs. Slam Master J Some hilarious commentary from both J.R and “The Grish” as they talk up Slam Master's 1-0 win-loss record. “Can ANYONE stop Slam Master J!?”. Tidy little match here as I continue to be more and more impressed with Ziggler each and every time I see him compete. The intensity he shows inside the ring is very welcome. I have to say however, I am mega-disappointed that his Intercontinental Title contest with John Morrison won't make the Breaking Point Pay-Per-View. A potential show stealer which would further the careers of both men has been pulled from the broadcast. That's not good. Dolph bagged a win with what Jim Ross called the “Zig Zag”, which is a running reverse bulldog. WINNER: Dolph Ziggler
Your Main Event & Mine... Battle #5 – Jack Swagger & The Miz vs. Kofi Kingston & Primo This should be a neat bout with a good fast pace to it. Let's see how it pans out! The crowd gave every man in the match a reaction when they emerged from the entranceway, which is always great to see and hear. Kofi is clearly the most over man in the match-up but badly needs some PPV contests for his U.S Title. Excellent action on display in this one! This is the kind of wrestling this writer likes to see. High-paced, bodies flying around. I was rather surprised to see The Miz gain the win for his team with the new finishing hold “Skull Crushing Finale” but it's also brilliant to see that he's not completely out of the picture in regards to fighting for title belts. In actual fact, all 4 of the men in this match could stake claim to being decent U.S Champions. WINNERS: The Miz & Jack Swagger
That's all for this week. Not quite on par with previous weeks but the main event more than made up for that with some high-flying moves that had the crowd on their collective feet. Roll on next week! Have a great weekend everybody.
