WWE Superstars SuperReview: Kelly Kelly vs. Gail Gail, Zeke and Vlad vs. DreamerDust, Escobar and McIntyre vs. Hardy and The Truth
By Jamie Kennedy
So my copy of WWE Smackdown vs. RAW 2010 didn't arrive - huh, Amazon!? It was released today (Friday) in the UK and while all my friends are changing the colour of John Cena's 3-quarter length bottoms to pink, I'm left to play LAST YEAR'S version while sobbing uncontrollably into my beer. It better arrive tomorrow with a free pair of Kelly Kelly signature implants otherwise I'm writing one hell of a nasty letter. At least I have Superstars to make me feel better with some good old fashioned wrasslin' action. On with the show!
· Pre-show we see a little video package dedicated to none other than Captain Lou Albano, who was a longtime manager for Vince McMahon Sr. and Jr. before he passed away recently. Nice little tribute here to an old school veteran.
Battle #1 – Kelly Kelly vs. Gail Kim Just a side note; Jamie Kennedy really is not digging the toned down Divas outfits nowadays. Long gone are those days of “The Kat” wrestling in criminally short skirts and thongs. I miss those long and lonely nights.. In all seriousness however, at least it gives people a chance to focus on the in-ring talents of these lovely ladies. Nice, punchy little match-up which really played on the strengths of both these women. It's fantastic to watch just how far Kelly has come in a relatively short space of time here in WWE. Her bouts are now rather entertaining and watchable, not that she can exactly be blamed for not having great matches before. I'd imagine even wrestling a short match in a pro-wrestling ring takes tremendous skill and also a lot out of you! Gail is unfortunately nothing more than a jobber these days but she has her role to play and I'm sure she's more than happy to fulfil it. The beauty of the women's division is that more often than not, everyone “gets a turn”. In the end of this one however, Kelly left with her arm raised after nailing the newly christened “Kelly Killer” for the 1..2..3! WINNER: Kelly Kelly
In Other News.. · Hype for the 1 hour WWE Title Iron Man Match this Sunday at WWE Bragging Rights between John Cena and champion Randy Orton. A lot of folks I know are very sceptical about this one but I have a feeling they can hold interest for the full 60 minutes. This should really be the blow-off for these 2 men for quite a while however. Let's not pair them at Survivor Series after all this please!
Battle #2 – Ezekiel Jackson & Vladimir Kozlov vs. Tommy Dreamer & Goldust Jackson reminds me more and more of Ahmed Johnson every time I see him. Even his theme features the word “Domination”. Yes, that and his appearance are the only things which made me think of the Johnson reference. I'm also digging the ECW announcetress (I did indeed make that word up, it'll catch on..) more than I did last week. Just shows you how quickly people can improve huh! Actually seeing her didn't hurt. YOWZA! Have to say though, don't like the way she pronounced Goldust. We need more drama than that love! Another of my patented “decent TV match” fare here as both teams got plenty of offence in. Was a bit surprised that Goldust ended up pinning Kozlov but I must still be in “Kozlov main event push” mode here. On 2nd thoughts, Jackson reminds me of Bad News Brown a hell of a lot more than Ahmed Johnson. Maybe it's the facial hair.. In any event (thanks Gorilla) Goldust got the pin with what looked like Edge's old finishing move “The Downward Spiral”. My friend Richard will love that reference! And hey, he's a Goldust fan too! Turns out the move is called “The Golden Age”. Thank you Matt Striker. After the match, Kozlov annihilated both enemies with his “Iron Curtain” manoeuvre and both he and 'Big Zeke' celebrated. WINNERS: Tommy Dreamer & Goldust
Meanwhile.. · Video for The Miz, who has went from being a laughing stock backstage (apparently) to being a highly important member of the WWE roster. His match with John Morrison this Sunday is also perhaps my most anticipated one on the entire card.
Battle #3 - Your Main Event & Mine – Matt Hardy & R-Truth vs. Drew McIntyre & Eric Escobar w/Vickie Guerrero Good main event this week I have to say, gives some of the older superstars a chance to battle some of the new! Also hopefully gives yours truly an opportunity to grab a proper look at Escobar in-ring. The right men went over in what was an exciting and fast-paced contest here. Big fan of McIntyre, not only because he's my fellow countryman but I see a lot of talent in him too. He is playing the arrogant heel PERFECTLY. Escobar also looks to have significant skills himself. Nice aggression when he needed it and he has a good size to him. In order to steal the win, Escobar hung Hardy up on the ropes before Drew Mc hammered him with his finishing move, which I shall call the “Drewdriver” because I'm completely lame. WINNERS: Drew McIntyre & Eric Escobar
Yet another good lineup this evening, thank you for joining me. Don't forget to steal a wee look at this weeks “Jamie Kennedy Experiment” article which focuses on the best men on the mic! Have a great weekend and enjoy WWE Bragging Rights if you catch it everybody!
