WWE SuperStars SuperReview: The Colon Family Feud Rages On, Gail Battles a Burchill, and Rey Rey Knox Mike Down To Size
A lot has been happening in the world of World Wrestling Entertainment these past few weeks, what with the ending of the “ECW” brand and the beginning on a new show entitled “WWE NXT” which it has come to light will apparently follow roughly the same guidelines as the now extinct “Tough Enough” series did. With all that's going down, I'm happy to report that “WWE Superstars” is still going strong and doesn't look like going anywhere! This is just as well as I really enjoy the show and actually do look forward to reporting on it right here at WorldWrestlingInsanity.com. With that said, on with tonight's broadcast!
Battle #1 – Evan Bourne & Primo vs. Chavo Guerrero and Carlito
Well well well. Looks like tonight is the night we see the brothers Colon go up against one another. I can't say I'm gutted about this match but I still would rather see these siblings as a tag team. They just seem far more effective that way and maybe it would help WWE realise my dream by having an actual competitive tag-team division within the company. Don't get me wrong, I do like the way things are and they obviously are doing almost everything right but dammit, I have to throw my toys out of the bloody pram on this occasion. I want a thriving tag league! WAAAAAAH!
On the plus side, this was pretty fast-paced and all these dudes obviously have chemistry with one another. Fresh off facing one another a few weeks ago on this very program, Carlito and Bourne get another whip at each other tonight and they look just as impressive as they did 2 weeks prior to this. If Evan Bourne can find his feet in terms of cutting promos, who knows – we could see him take a significant leap up the ladder. Perhaps not to the main event but y'know, it certainly wouldn't hurt him or the promotion! He's a young guy who can work hard and is over as hell.
In the end, Evan whacked poor Chavo (who's days of cutting a break in WWE are clearly over, although he shouldn't be dis-heartened at all. He still has a huge purpose on that roster) with his ever-stunning “Air Bourne” Shooting Star Press for the 1..2..3!
WINNERS: Evan Bourne & Primo

After last weeks totally awesome announcement of “The Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase being inducted into this years WWE Hall of Fame, we've since found out that one Antonio Inoki shall be joining him at the cermony in being honoured. This, is equally as awesome. I like when WWE show appreciation to people outside of their company. Folks who have done a lot for promoting pro wresting in their lifetime and therefore helping this company.
Bogus Hall of Fame or not, I enjoy it and it's nice to give some ageing veterans a nice night out.
Battle #2 – Gail Kim vs. Katie Lea Burchill
I'm sure I'm not alone in being happy Gail is getting a Pay-Per-View singles match in WWE. Maybe she's finally proved herself to those and such as those in charge, after having been associated with TNA for so long. I don't think it's any coincidence whatsoever that since she's left the Orlando company, their own women's division has floundered and is now a shadow of what it once was.
For the short time both women were given, they did their best and managed to have a nice little competitive match-up. No doubts at all who was getting their arm raised in victory but these bouts are only there for that exact reason – to make Gail Kim look stronger going into the “Elimination Chamber” show.
Kim thumped Katie Lea (who will surely get a move herself to the Smackdown brand on a permanent basis from next week onwards) with her newly dubbed “Eat Defeat” finishing hold for the win. Afterwards, Gail's opponent at the PPV, Maryse, came out and applauded that victory. I really like Maryse and am enjoying where the writers are going with her character. She's actually scarily good at being falsely nice! We know that won't last however and she'll go back to being the lovable bitch we know and love!
WINNER: Gail Kim

Video for Chris Jericho, one of my favourites in the past decade of WWF/WWE for sure. I love how he's re-invented his career and character as a smug, cowardly heel who thinks he's better than all the fans. When you find a performer with the mic skills and presence to pull it off, that gimmick is definitely one of the best around.

Another hype package, this time for the “Road to Wrestlemania” and the “Elimination Chamber” supershow. Can't wait for that one as I've always been a big fan of that match-type. Still wish it was called “No Way Out” however but I digress.
Battle #3 – Your Main Event & Mine – Rey Mysterio vs. Mike Knox
Remember when these guys had a mini-feud for a while? I actually liked it and thought Knox came out of looking great. The same can be said for this match. Very typical Rey Mysterio bout as he gets brutalised and hammered for a large portion of it before doing his super-human comeback to a big pop from the fans. Even though Mike Knox will never win this kind of match against such an established superstar, he always somehow manages to save face and still be one menacing son of a gun. Can you tell I'm a fan of his? Everything about his look is pure evil. You can almost smell the mal-intent from him. Oh man, I sound just like Matt Striker..
Even though we've all seen this match a hundred times before, it's still damn entertaining and works best if you're lucky enough to be in attendance to view it. It's hard not to get excited when Rey makes a comeback.
In the end, he hit his “619” and top-rope splash combo for the pinfall and the victory. I'm not entirely sure where they're going with Rey as it relates to Wrestlemania as of yet but that should all be made clear very soon!
WINNER: Rey Mysterio
Good show here and it continues a long, long, LONG line of great Thursday night programming from WWE. I appreciate why more people don't watch this every week but I can honestly say I would still tune in even if I wasn't writing these reports for the site.
As always, you can get in touch with me via email to let me know your thoughts on anything that happened on this weeks show or just anything that's going on in the wacky world of professional wrestling. Or maybe you just want to say hello! That's cool too! I really do appreciate all the people who take time out to email me and have fun bantering back and forth about this passion we both share. Drop me a line at jamiekennedy@live.com ! Have a great weekend everybody and I'll see you next week!
