WWE SuperStars SuperReview: Melina vs. Alicia, Vance vs. Shelton, Cryme Tyme vs, HaasKnox, and More
Happy New Year to all involved in making World Wrestling Insanity what it is and also to the readers who make it all worthwhile! Hope everyone had a great time and got suitably drunk, I know I did. Then again, to be completely stereotypical, I am Scottish and there may well be an uproar if I didn't have more than 1 beer!
Battle #1 – Melina vs. Alicia Fox
Above standard WWE Diva fare here which opened the show nicely and hopefully sets the tone for the rest of the program! I'm a huge fan of Miss. Fox and her bad-ass heel attitude is very welcome among the female roster. Arrogant heels seem to never really fail with me, it's probably my favourite character alignment!
Melina hasn't interested me in 2009 as much as she has in previous years and I find myself wishing she'd go back to playing a heel. I appreciate the female portion of the WWE locker room does require performers to play babyface but I've never really felt comfortable rooting for Melina. I'd rather see her as the “hot bitch” who knows she's got a lot going for her and isn't afraid to flaunt it.
Decent match here however as both women were given time to shine and bust out some nice moves. None were nicer than the finish however which saw Melina drill Fox with the “LA Sunset” (sunset flip powerbomb) which gained her the victory. With Bret Hart re-entering the company and being outspoken in his praise for Melina, I can her push to the top of the women's card being solidified. It is deserved but I just have more interest in her when she's playing heel!
WINNER: Melina

It's “Ask The Divas”, which immediately makes the women of WWE look like airheads again following such a great in-ring display. I know I know, I'm getting bored myself of slating this segment week in and week out. I cannot even watch it however as it is not how I want to envisage the WWE Divas.
Battle #2 – Shelton Benjamin vs. Vance Archer
As a little side note, I'm digging the appointment/promotion of Savannah to ECW ring announcer. Personally, I always thought she sucked as a backstage interviewer so it's pleasantly surprising to find out that she just rocks when announcing the wrestlers down the aisle. Good on her and she's actually already showing more promise than the eventually fantastic Lillian Garcia showed this early on in her career.
This was another pretty decent bout which has its place right here on WWE Superstars. Archer is continuing to show some promise in his role as an unpredictable heel while Benjamin is doing a great job working with up-and-comers and people who are new to the company. Shelton has threatened many times to make it to the top of the cards during his run in WWE but it looks like those days are over. He's someone you can count on to put on an exciting match however and the fans do have an interest in him.
Vance suffered his first loss in the promotion due to snapping following a slap by Benjamin and relentlessly booting him in the corner. This drew a DQ from the referee after Archer would not let up and bring “The Gold Standard” out of the corner. Immediately after the decision, big Vance nailed Shelton with his “Bulls' Eye” (scoop into an inverted DDT) finisher to hammer home the point that he is not to be messed with.
2009 has really been a great year in terms of the amount of new talent we have seen enter the company. ECW is the perfect place for these guys and gals to hone their talents while still being a part of the main roster. Long may this continue in 2010. I'm not buying into this whole “WWE doesn't create new stars” argument whatsoever.
WINNER: Shelton Benjamin (by DQ)

Video package hyping the incredibly exciting (in my opinion) return of Bret “Hitman” Hart to Monday Night RAW this coming Monday. I will be glued to my TV set in anticipation of this and cannot wait to see the fallout from this show. I'll of course be watching the special Monday night iMPACT! too but I'm just more excited by the return of Hart than Hogan.
Battle #3 – Cryme Tyme vs. Mike Knox & Charlie Haas
Unintentionally hilarious moment as Todd Grisham almost loses it while giggling away at a few younger fans in DX garb jigging along to the Cryme Tyme entrance theme. I love moments like that.
Haas simply needs to go back to the land of being a comedy babyface and impersonating other performers. Him dressing up as Beth Phoenix was one of the highlights of 2009. Other than that, re-team him with Shelton Benjamin and bring back the “World Greatest Tag Team”. Those were some good days for the tag division.
Standard WWE tag action on display here which is really entertaining despite us having experienced it so many times. I'm digging the haircut for big Shad Gaspard but it's his smaller tag partner JTG who picks up the win for his team upon utilising a sweet looking running corkscrew neck-breaker on Haas.
Perhaps when the Tag Titles drop back down the ranks Cryme Tyme will get a much-deserved run with the belts.
WINNERS: Cryme Tyme

Batista gets the package treatment. Wait...let me rephrase that as what I just typed sounds absolutely horrible. Apologies for any mental scarring I may have caused. Batista gets the VIDEO package treatment as he continues to be pushed as a monster heel, something WWE had apparently pondered about for years. It's come just at the right time for me and I'm glad one of my favourite superstars is once again fresh and exciting.

We take a look back at this past Mondays RAW show which had Timbaland as the guest host. John Cena attempted to wrestle the WWE Championship back from “The Celtic Warrior” Sheamus but failed on this attempt. I'm pretty glad they've continued to show faith in the big man's title run but I have a feeling it will come to an end at the Royal Rumble.
Battle #4 – Your Main Event & Mine
MVP & Chris Masters w/Eve vs. Carlito & Jack Swagger
Will 2010 finally be the year the often-touted MVP makes the jump skywards towards the main event scene? He certainly threatened to do so in '09 and was possibly in the running for the role Kofi Kingston is currently employing in a feud with Randy Orton. Of course, I don't know that for sure but remember he interrupted the “Viper” on an episode of RAW following his jump in the WWE Draft?
Chris Masters is more over now than he has ever been and the decision to switch his entrance music to something less dramatic was a good one. He now has the generic rock theme but it suits his new babyface run a little more than the old “unveiling” music. Long may it continue too as I've always thought the guy was slagged for little reason. Sure he's not exactly a super-worker like Shawn Michaels is but few are, he's simply not as bad as a lot of people say he is.
This main event match-up really didn't get going until Masters tagged in and the finish sequence was initiated! “The Masterpiece” was dominant until he was caught by surprise from behind with a very smooth and suitably painful looking “Backstabber” from Carlito. This gained his team the 1..2..3!
WINNERS: Carlito & Jack Swagger
