DISCLAIMER: The following column is a day late so normally Matt would apologize to all you who were waiting next to your computer anxiously awaiting his column. But being that Matt’s gimmick is that of a heel, he is not going to apologize. If you don’t like it, too bad cause you are here reading this now. HAHA)

What a difference a day makes?

Apples and Oranges. Two fruits that people across the world love yet two fruits that have completely different tastes. That is exactly like Total Nonstop Action wrestling and World Wrestling Entertainment. On Sunday, October 23, 2005, TNA presented their “Bound for Glory” Pay Per View. On this show, they had several solid wrestling matches complimented by some decent promos and angles. Unfortunately for us, 24 hours later, World Wrestling Entertainment presented their weekly “Monday Night Raw” program.

Sure WWE had their usual good match or two. But other than that, the show was marred by a horrible, distasteful, unfunny, not amusing skit perpetuated by a billionaire who gets his giggles from jokes about crap. Literally. He laughs at sophomoric humor like flatulence, poopie, doo doo, excrement, sh*t, crap, and necrophilia.

It is incredible to watch a young, upstart company like TNA produce a skit that has been adored by critics involving mostly people who have not been seen on the “Big Stage” like America’s Most Wanted, Team Canada, and Abyss all showed poise and charisma in their skit that aired on Impact last week involving the Dudley’s Team 3D funeral. When on the flip side of that coin, a billion dollar wrestling and entertainment conglomerate can produce such a low brow, horribly acted skit. Why Vincent Kennedy McMahon thought that ripping on JR with poor taste, comedy genius is mind boggling. Never have I been ashamed to be a wrestling fan. Not through Katie Vick. Not through Owen Hart’s tragic death, not through Mohammed Hassan, not through the Gobbeldy Gooker. But last night, I came dangerously close. What makes it worse is that with all the hoopla being made over this, people are talking. And when people are talking, whether good or bad, Vince McMahon loves it. Something gets peoples blood boiling, then Vince thinks it must be good. So expect more junk skits like that in the very near future.

The Crippled? Chris Benoit.

You break some vertebrae in your neck. Understandable considering you have been wrestling since the age of like 15 or something. Wear and tear, no matter how tough you are, how much you work out or how careful you try to be is inevitable. But for goodness sakes, taking risks like Chris Benoit took on this past week’s Smackdown is ridiculous. For the two of you that didn’t see it and haven’t heard about it yet, I will try my best to explain it. Chris Benoit was facing Booker T for the United States title. Booker was outside the ring and Benoit was inside. Chris Benoit then proceeded to do a tope through the top and middle ropes to dive on Booker. Booker moved. In mid air, Chris Benoit kind of flipped over a bit and his back slammed into the announcers table and made a sickening thud. He then fell to the floor. How he didn’t manage to break his back, re-injure his neck or flat out die is beyond me. Are risks like these really necessary? Normally, stuff like this is done by someone working their first pay per view match and they want to get a buzz about them. Or some indy guy working his first main event against a former ECW standout. But not a 20 year veteran, coming off a neck injury, working on a program that is barely watched anymore. Chris, please, for the love of god, don’t try this again.

Televised Match of the week.

Hands down the best match of this past week has to go to “The Phenomenal” AJ Styles vs. “The Fallen Angel” Christopher Daniels in a 30 minute Iron man Match at TNA’s “Bound for Glory” pay per view. Once again these men showed why they are really the best wrestlers currently in TNA. 30 minutes of solid wrestling. 30 minutes of innovative moves. 30 minutes of crowd pleasing action. Only 1 fall. AJ Styles retains and these two men add another classic TNA match to their resumes. Good stuff from two men who really deserve their shot in the WWE. If only the powers that be coughmcmahonfamilycough realized that BIGGER isn’t always better. While I admit that Chris Masters is a guilty pleasure of mine, I’d take AJ, Daniels, Low-Li, London, American Dragon, Homicide, Teddy Hart, Samoa Joe, Jack Evans, Roderick Strong, CM Punk, Jamie Knoble, Spanky, Austin Aries, Alex Shelly, & Petey Williams any day of the week. And twice on Sunday’s.

Non televised match of the week.

Jersey All Pro Wrestling’s main event of their 8th Anniversary show. For an independent federation to travel about 2 hours away from their usual location and still manage to draw 900+ people, that is incredible. Incredibly enough, not only did JAPW do that, they managed to have a main event that was on par with the TLC matches that featured the Dudley’s/Hardy’s/Edge & Christian. The main event of that show featured bitter rivals Homicide & Teddy Hart being forced to team up to take on the teams of Mark and Jay Briscoe, Joel and Jose Maximo & Trent Acid and Johnny Kashmere in a four way Tables, Ladders and Chairs match for the JAPW tag team titles. This match was filled with innovative high spots, blood, sweat and tears. Fittingly, the match was won by Hart and Homicide who during the match, also worked on each other as well as their opponents. Hart and Homicide were both climbing the ladder at the same time to receive the belts when Hart pushed his partner off the top of the ladder, grabbed both belts himself and celebrated. He then teased shaking hands with ‘Cide only to blindside him and leave him laying. Intrigue is what WWE is lacking in their main feuds.

And Finally Taboo Tuesday

Can WWE be anymore obvious when it comes to this stpid concept of a pay per view. Do you all really think you are making a difference? Honestly? WWE is consciously swaying the voting to go in the favor that they want. Did you not notice during RAW that each time they plugged the main event match between John Cena vs. Kurt Angle vs. ????? that Shawn Michaels name was the first one on the list, right next to Kurt Angle’s? The other possible names were beneath Shawn’s. Do you actually believe thatg in the “Stone Cold” Steve Austin vs. Coach match that a debate or arm wrestling match has any chance of beating the street fight option? Ric Flair came out and begged the fans for a cage match against HHH. Why? And what the hell is a “one fall to a finish match”? Why not just give the option of “regular match”? What the hell is the fancy name for? I just don’t get “it” sometimes. Go to the message board to discuss further.

Regards,

Matt Dawgs
