UNFORGIVEN ' 06

September 17th 2006

in Toronto, Ontario, Canada (Air Canada Center)

- Hosted by Jim Ross & Jerry "The King" Lawler.

- They opened with the usual great opening clip, followed by huge fireworks display and hello by JR & Lawler, and the spanish commentators.

1) WWE Intercontinental champion, Johnny Nitro (with Melina) beat Jeff Hardy at 17:37 after interference by Melina.

Hardy had his hair braided. They started slow. The hot crowd chanted "Nitro Sucks". First move was kinda botched. Hardy is just doing the basics with a bunch of armdrags. 5 minutes in and they really haven't done anything at all, and the first highspot the camera missed. At 5:40 Hardy ran the railing and Clotheslined Nitro on the outside. Nitro Dropkicked Hardy who was on the top rope and Hardy fell and bounced on the ropes like a disarticulated puppet in a fantastic visual. Crowd is hot but they're really not getting anything at all with this disappointing opener. At 12:08 Nitro missed his Corkscrew Moonsault. Hardy got a 2 count from his Whisper In The Wind. Hardy hit his finisher but Nitro put his feet on the ropes at 14:42. Nitro tried a couple of leglocks but Hardy caught the ropes. Nitro was bumped into Melina, Hardy followed up with a Roll-Up for a 2 count. Melina then KO'ed Hardy with her boot and Nitro covered him for the win.

Complete crowd killer. I like these 2 a lot, but that was a bad match and everything what an opener must not be.

- They aired a preview for "The Marine", the same we saw at Raw.

- They showed Smackdown GM, Teddy Long in the skybox.

- Matt Hardy appeared backstage to congratulate his brother. Lita interrupted and mocked the former members of Team Extreme. She's a champion and they are nobodies to her eyes. She made fun of them and left smiling.

2) Umaga (with A.E.Estrada) and Kane wrestled to a DCO at 7:03.

Estrada did a lot of mic work before the match. He claimed Umaga was the only monster in WWE. Between the hour long opening match and the extar long Estrada intro, they're looking to win time it seems. Kane got KO'ed on the outside at 1:30. The Canadian crowd started a small "Umaga" chant. At 2:42 Umaga actually hit a Shining Wizard on Kane!! He then Bulldozed his ass in the corner. Kane punched Umaga to counter the finger finisher. He came back with tons of punches and a few clotheslines, but Umaga hit a Samoan Drop. Kane hit his top rope Clothesline at 5:42. They fought on the outside and were both counted out at 7:03. They fought in the crowd and around the Unforgiven set until officials interfered.

You could see the DCO coming about a mile away. Good big man stuff.

- Vince & Shane talked about their main event matchup in the back. Nothing to it.

- The plugged "Run" by Day Of Fire, the official theme song for the PPV.

3) World Tag Team champions, The Spirit Squad beat The Highlanders at 10:00 when Mikey pinned Rory after a Face-Buster.

Mikey & Kenny wrestled for the SS tonight.  At 4:10 Robbie hit a nice Dropkick, but then missed a Tope and almost broke his shoulder. Ouch.  They worked on Robbie for a while to build up to the hot tag, which happened at 8:42. They hit their finisher, but Kenny came back to break the count. Johnny interfered with a Kick on Rory and a Facebuster later the SS kept the titles.

 4) D-Generation X beat The McMahons & ECW champion, The Big Show in a Handicap Hell In A Cell match at 25:04 when Triple H pinned Vince McMahon after a Sledgehammer shot.

The HIAC is much taller than usual. DX hit BS with a couple of low blows o take him out of the start of the match. The crowd started a "You screwed Bret" chant. At 2:10 Shane was already bleeding. 30 seconds later Vince did too. Triple H used a screwdriver on Vince's forehead. DX destroyed the McMahons until BS came back, but they quickly KO'ed him again to continue their (very basic) number on the McMahons. At 6:30 BS came back again and changed the tide. At 9:05 HBK started bleeding after a couple of cage shots by the BS. At 10:40 Shane hit a very nice VanTerminator on Triple H, who bled from the ear. Pace is slow here but some nice spots. As usual, Shane is the MVP. At 13:40 BS hit a Vader Bomb on HBK but Vince refused to take the 3 count and wanted to continue the DX destruction. In a true WTF moment, Shane actually powered Triple H on his shoulders, wobbled a bit, but didn't fall and hit a perfect neckbreaker on him.  At 16:50 Vince stuck his ass out to make HBK kiss it again, but Triple H came back. BS mistakenly Splashed Vince and he then looked very worried at his error. DX crotched BS in the corner and then killed Shane 2 on 1. HBK hit a top rope elbowdrop on Shane while he had his head between a chair. Problem is Shane was seen very visibly biting on his blood capsule, seconds later he was bleeding from "internal injuries". Triple H took care of BS with a couple of chairshots, followed by a HBK Superkick. Vince faced off DX alone. DX pantsed a KO'ed BS and forced Vince to kiss BS's ass at 23:40. Vince almost gagged and JR said "He needs Dr.Heinee!" HBK hit his finisher and then Triple H broke his sledgehammer on Vince neck for the win. The McMahons left on gurneys.

- They plugged WM 23.

5) Trish Stratus beat WWE Women's champion, Lita in 11:35 by submission with the Sharpshooter to capture the belt.

They aired a career retro clip before the match for Trish. Trish tripped in the stairs Juvi-style on her way to the ring. The outside of the ring was wet since they had to mop up the blood from the HIAC. Lita missed a Moonsault at 5:55. A lot of big bumps on both parts. At 10:37 Lita kicked out from a Chick Kick. At 11:35 Lita submitted to a Sharpshooter to a big pop. Biggest pop of the night for the Sharpshooter by far. Trish cried and celebrated her last match with her 7th title in front of her hometown crowd. As is the case with every Trsih match, they did a couple of closeups of Trish's "more than just a friend" Lilian Garcia.

- They plugged the "season premiere" of SD and showed Teddy Long again in the skybox.

- Todd Grisham interviewed Randy Orton in the back. He's gonna make Carlito his bitch.

6) Randy Orton beat Carlito at 8:41 with an RKO.

Carlito did a lot of high flying moves in the first 2 minutes. Orton started bleeding from the mouth and seemed out of it for a moment. Carlito is ON tonight. At 7:56 he hit a Back-Cracker on Orton. At 8:41 Orton countered a top rope maneuver withan RKO out of nowhere. Unbelievable "Oh My God" pop for the finisher. The crowd was floored. Best match of the night so far.

7) John Cena beat WWE champion, Edge in a TLC match at 25:27 to capture the title.

Edge came out to a very big pop and Cena came out to huge boos and "Cena Sucks" chants. They did he whole official presentation thing with both contestants in the ring. Crowd boo'ed everytime Cena hit a move. They quickly got the chairs out. At 3:30 Edge tried to go up the ladder for the first time. Edge was Hiptossed on a ladder. They set up a Powerbomb through a table spot, but Cena botched it. They improv'd and Edge Powerslammed Cena through the table. At 8:50 Edge tried the Shelton B. deal and walked the ladder to jump on Cena on the outside, but it didn't go smooth and could have been bad. At 10:40 Edge tried a solo Conchairto but Cena countered. At 12:00 Edge tapped out to a STFU through a ladder but submission don't count here. At 14:00 Cena did a 5 Knuckle Shuffle from the top of the ladder. Edge came back with a monstruous chairshot and took out another table. He stacked 2 tables, put Cena in between and tried to kill him. Cena escaped and pushed Edge from the top rope. Crowd booed heavily. Cena took out the higher ladder but Edge Speared him from it. Cena Powerbombed Edge on a ladder. He tried to climb but Lita interfered and pushed the ladder. Cena fell to the outside through a table. Scary bump. Cena came back though. Lita chairshot him, he then bumped into a ladder and Edge fell from the ladder to the outside through 2 tables. He then hit an FU on Lita. They finally ended up both on top of the high ladder, Cena FU'ed Edge from the tope through 2 tables and took the belt for the win. He hugged his father who was ringside after the match.
