This and many other questions will be answered in the 20th edition of the Survivor Series-the grandaddy of them all! No, wait, that's Wrestlemania. No, wait that's really Starcade. WHO'S YOUR GRANDDADDY? Josh Matthews runs through tonight’s lineup. It’s an all-star night tonight of RAW, ECW, and SmackDown! Superstars teaming up as the Survivor Series celebrates its twentieth show. Can you believe it?
That mysterious voice tells us…
Philadelphia, PA
20 years ago, a tradition began. Tonight, that tradition continues. In case you missed the pre-game show, a recap of tonight’s lineup airs:
Ken Kennedy vs. Undertaker Batista vs. King Booker Team DX vs. Team RKO
Michael Cole & JBL welcome the fans. J.R. & the King talk about the Survivor Series teams and welcome the Spanish Announce Team.
Lillian Garcia gives us the rules. In case you haven’t been here the last 20 years, you eliminate your opponents until there are no remaining members on the team.
JR and King make it clear that tonight is about survival.
The rules are simple; you can eliminate your opponent by pinfall, submission, count-out, or disqualification. “The Enforcer” spirits a Spirit Squad member into the ringpost, showing the fans one of the many things that made him great back in his heyday. Ron Simmons and one of the Spirit Squad are counted out. Unfortunately the referee catches Double A in some extracurricular activity and sends him back to the dressing room. Sgtl Slaughter is saluted by one of the Spirit Squad members. The Sarge returns the salute and cheapshots the Spirit Squad member. The Legends are totally dominating the Spirit Squad. Sgt. Slaughter has Nicky trapped in the Cobra Clutch. Unfortunately a Spirit Squad member blindsides Sarge, making for an easy pin. The Legends are down 3-2. Despite a strong effort by Dusty, he falls to Kenny, leaving him facing 3-1 odds. Fortunately the Dirtiest Player in the Game has lots of tricks to use and he employs the ring ropses to score a quick pin on Mikey. Next to fall is Kenny who gets small packaged by Flair. The odds are even as Johnny faces the Nature Boy. Flair takes out Johnny's leg and slaps the figure four leglock on Johnny. Johnny taps out quickly.
WINNER: TEAM LEGENDS (Ric Flair is the survivor)
After the match, an angry Spirit Squad dishes out a whole lotta punishment to the 16-time world champion.
JBL and Michael Cole prepare the fans for the next match. It’s going to be a bloodfeud.
Recap airs of the events leading up to tonight’s match. Chris Benoit returned from a sabattaical to find the world turned upside down. He’s trying to figure out why Chavo and Vickie Guerrero turned on Rey Mysterio. Benoit suspects it may have something to do with Eddie’s estate. Nobody knows how to milk a death like WWE. Who would have thought that Chavo Guerrero would have rode Eddie’s coattails through life AND death.
2. United States Heavyweight Championship Match: Chavo Guerrero (w. Vickie Guerrero) vs. Chris Benoit (Champion)- Cole and JBL tell the fans tonight’s match is going to be a physical matchup. JBL talks about how Benoit is at the top of his game after taking time off to heal up from injuries. Both announcers note Chavo Guerrero’s improvement in the ring since teaming up with Vicki Guerrero. Chavo Guerrero is going nuts just blasting Benoit with forearms and stomps. In a heartbeat, Benoit turns the tide and slaps the Crippler Crossface on Chavo. Thanks to Vicki, Chavo’s leg ends up on the rope and the referee breaks things up. Benoit isn’t done yet though and continues with a suplex. The momentum shifts again when Chavo whips Benoit into the corner knocking Benoit senseless. Chavo slows things down, applying an armlock on Benoit. JBL and Cole point out that Chavo is focusing on Benoit’s one weakspot-his neck. Chavo continues his assault with a series of kicks to Benoit’s back. Chavo starts talking trash to Benoit telling him he’s paying for sticking his nose in Guerrero business. Once again, Benoit’s toughness stands out as he fights back and lands suplexes on Chavo. When he goes for the flying headbutt though, Vicki distracts him allowing Chavo to go back on the offensive. Frogsplash by Chavo. Benoit kicks out. Benoit goes for the Sharpshooter and Chavo kicks him off. Unfortunately it’s into Vicki. Chavo tries a rollup but the Rabid Wolverine slips out, applying the Crippler Crossface. Chavo quickly taps out.
WINNER: Chris Benoit by submission.
JBL derides Chris Benoit for hitting a woman while Michael Cole says Chavo Guerrero showed his true colors tonight.
Promo airs for the ECW PPV featuring an Elimination Chamber Match for the ECW Title.
Todd Grisham is backstage with Woman’s Champion Lita and Edge. Grisham asks Lita if she’s reconsidered retirement. She says she’s going to retire and go out champion. Edge gets in the easy Donovan McNabb joke. Edge says Lita doesn’t care what the fans say. He recalls the incident two weeks ago when DX disrespected Lita. Meanwhile in the background, Cryme Tyme goes in to Lita’s dressing room to loot it. Edge says he may even let Lita get a piece of DX tonight. Cryme Tyme warns Grisham that “he didn’t see nothing”.
3. WWE Woman’s Championship Match: Micki James vs. Lita (Champion) Lillian Garcia introduces Lita and reminds the fans that it’s Lita’s last match. J.R. and the King point out that James if facing Lita in a fair fight. She won’t be blindfolded, handcuffed, etc. as she has been the last few weeks. Micki James wastes no time in laying a beatdown on Lita. Lita fires back with some lefts and rights, staggering Micki James. JR and the King note Lita’s legacy as a pioneer in the woman’s division. The Philly crowd make their feelings about Lita known as a “She’s a crack whore” chant breaks out. The King tells J.R. some Philly fans gave him some dirt on Lita-she took three pregnancy tests before she took her first driver’s test. Lita slaps the sleeper on Micki James but James makes it to the ropes. Lita goes to the top ropes for a flying bodysplash but James rolls out of the way. James is too beat up to take advantage though and Lita lays in some fisticuffs. Not a good strategy as James fires back with her own brawling moves. James then takes the advantage with a series of martial arts kicks, getting a nearfall. Fisherman’s suplex and Lita goes down again. When James goes for a monkeyflip, Lita reverses it and plants her into the mat. Lita hits the Litacurrana but amazingly, James kicks out! Series of nearfalls until James hits the DDT and pins Lita.
WINNER: Micki James (and new Woman’s Champion!)
Lita calls Lita tells her to tell the fans “Let’s hear it for the greatest woman’s champion of all time!” The fans respond with loud boos and Lita loses it. She can’t understand why the fans are repaying her with boos for her hardwork in the ring.
CrymeTyme’s music plays as they make their way to the ring with a box of what is apparently Lita’s personal items.
Cryme Tyme says they “found” a box of her stuff backstage and they’re going to have a tribute sale. No, wait, they’[re going to have a HO-SALE. Cryme Tyme prepares to sell Lita’s items to the fans. Judging from Lita’s comments, Cryme Tyme isn’t getting much money for Lita’s stuff. They find a tube of Monistat for yeast infections. Cryme Tyme spot Mr. Moneybags JBL. JBL says he’s the only man who doesn’t have a pair of Lita’s panties and offers to buy them. He gives Cryme Tyme a hundred dollar bill but doesn’t get any change or the panties. JBL threatens to dig up Johnny Cochrane. Cryme Tyme finds what looks to be a vibrator amongst Lita’s goods. Lita is disgusted
Another Cryme Tyme angle that went about five minutes too long.
Footage airs from a pre-taped interview with Batista. Cole asks Batista about how he had to relinquish the title as well as his failed efforts to regain the title. Tonight is Batista’s last opportunity to regain the championship. Batista isn’t talking. Finally, Cole gets Batista to say something “I’m leaving tonight champion”
4. Team DX(Hardy Boyz, CM Punk, vs. Team RKO (Johnny Nitro, Gregory Helms, Mike Knox w. Kelly Kelly, Edge, and Randy Orton) This is HBK’s 14th appearance at Survivor Series. The King and JR remind the fans that the match is total elimination. You don’t win until all of your opponents are eliminated. Triple H and HBK get ready to do their shtick, working the crowd. Even CM Punk and Team Extreme are getting in on the fun. The lively Philly crowd breaks into a strong “CM Punk” chant which Triple H acknowledges. Team RKO makes their way out. The match gets underway as Triple H flirts with Kelly Kelly. Kelly Kelly steps on the mat apron, eager to show off her assets. Mike Knox is not happy. Superkick by HBK on Mike Knox and Mike Knox is eliminated. HBK isn’t quite sure who he just eliminated. HBK gets in the ring with Johnny Nitro. Nitro tags out to Gregory Helms who squares off against Matt. Once Matt is weakened, Edge tags in to dish out some punishment on Matt. The beating has taken its toll on Matt Hardy who’s now busted open. Matt makes the hot tag to CM Punk. CM Punk shows the fans why some people believe he’s the future of wrestling as he makes Nitro tap out to the Anaconda. Realizing they’re down 5-3, Team RKO goes on the offensive, working over Punk. The crowd gets behind Punk but he’s in trouble. Randy Orton hits the RKO but Punk’s teammates make the save. Edge goes for the spear but somehow CM Punk gets out of the way. Punk makes the hot tag to Triple H. All out melee. Double team move by Team Extreme as Matt Hardy makes the pinfall on Gregory Helms. Edge and Orton are the only members left for Team RKO. Seeing the odds, they decide to take a powder and head for the dressing room but Team Extreme aren’t going to let them off that easy. The Hardy Boyz throw Team RKO back into the ring where Team DX have their way with them. HBK hits a superkick on Edge, leaving Orton on his own. Orton hops over the guardrail and hightails it but Team DX get him. Superkick by Orton followed by a Pedigree from Triple H.
WINNERS: Team DX (Survivors: Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Hardy Boyz, and CM Punk) Video montage of Ken Kennedy’s quest to make a name for himself off of the Undertaker (given the history of the Undertaker, it’s not the brightest idea). Footage airs showing Kennedy talking trash at
SmackDown!’s Krystal is backstage with Ken Kennedy. Ken Kennedy says it’s the biggest match of his career. MVP interrupts Kennedy. He didn’t appreciate Kennedy throwing him (MVP) to the Brothers of Destruction but he said he’s going to let it ride. MVP notices Kennedy has Vaseline on his forehead so it will be tougher for Kennedy to get busted open. MVP says he’s got Kennedy’s back tonight.
5. FIRST BLOOD MATCH: Mr. Kennedy vs. the Undertaker
Mr. Kennedy does his usual shtick but he’s so angry that he looks like he’s going to give himself a stroke by yelling KENNEDY! Undertaker makes his way through an ocean of fog. Cole and JBL recall how the Undertaker debuted in the WWF as part of Ted DiBiase’s Million Dollar Team. Kennedy backs out of the ring as Undertaker (four-time World Champion) steps into the ring. JBL has been in the ring with the Undertaker. When you’re in the ring with the Undertaker, you question everything. He talks about the Undertaker’s stare and how it sends chills down your spine. JBL and Cole list the rules-there are no rules. You win by being the first to make your opponent bleed. Kennedy starts with punches but they have little effect. Undertaker floors Kennedy with one blow then takes things outside. Undertaker slams Mr. Kennedy into the table and unloads with a series of punches. Kennedy gets his head blasted into the steel steps. JBL recalls the Undertaker’s debut and how he killed Hulkamania. Undertaker is in complete control. JBL says the Undertaker knows how to win a First Blood Match-you go after your opponent’s face. Kennedy mounts a comeback but Undertaker puts the brakes on driving Kennedy’s back into the steel post. Undertaker continues the punishment on Kennedy. JBL tells Cole what a sick individual is. The Undertaker’s punishment takes it toll on Mr. Kennedy as he begins to spit up blood. Fortunately for Kennedy, MVP comes out with a towel so Kennedy can dispose of the blood. MVP tells Kennedy he doesn’t need the match then surprises him by tossing him into the ring, obviously payback for leaving him to deal with the Brothers of Destruction. Undertaker gets his head driven into the exposed turnbuckle but he’s not posted open. MVP goes to blast Mr. Kennedy with a chair but things backfire and he hits Undertaker instead. The Undertaker is busted open. The referee sees the blood and calls for the bell.
WINNER: Ken Kennedy
After the match, Kennedy is relentless as he rips into the Undertaker’s wound. Kennedy grabs the microphone and announces he’s the winner. Unfortunately he gets too close to the Undertaker and the Undertaker puts the deathgrip on Kennedy’s throat. An irate Undertaker lays out Kennedy then blasts a chair over his head. The Undertaker continues the beating, taking Kennedy outside to administer more pain. JBL calls out for someone to help Kennedy but no one is listening. Referee Charles Robinson looks on as the Undertaker delivers a Tombstone Piledriver.
Commercial airs for the new Roddy Piper DVD. Born to Controversy: The Roddy Piper Story
King Booker is backstage with Queen Sharmell. Tonight is Batista’s last chance to regain the championship. Booker T is not about to let that happen.
6. Team Big Show(MVP,Test, Umaga, Finlay, & Big Show) vs. Team Cena (RVD, Sabu, Lashley, Kane, and John Cena) A SmackDown! referee sneaks up behind Finlay and takes away the shel… the big Irish stick. The King wonders who can withstand the team Big Show has assembled. Team Big Show bail out of the ring as Team Cena make their way to the ring. This should be a good brawl. SIGN OF THE NIGHT: “DISCHARGE THE MARINE” Cena squares off with Umaga. Umaga is out of control and goes after some of Cena’s team as well as Cena. Cena clotheslines Umaga out of the ring as Finlay comes in. Meanwhile, Umaga has grabbed a television monitor and he blasts Cena with it, earning a quick disqualification. Cena is outside the ring, apparently comatose or dead. The referees stop Umaga from further punishment on Cena but the damage is obviously done. Meanwhile, Team Big Show are working over RVD like a dog. Test is manhandling RVD as JR and King note how much Test has improved since coming to ECW. Finlay takes his turn and delivers more punishment to RVD followed by a tag to MVP. RVD is in a bad way until RVD puts his educated feet to work, blasting not only MVP but the rest of Team Big Show. Kane comes in to deliver a chokeslam on MVP followed by a Five Star Frogsplash by RVD. RVD pins MVP. However, Test blindsides him with a big boot and lays him out. The combination of the punishment dished out earlier and the big boot are enough to finish him off. Sabu comes in and works over Test. With an assist from Lashley, Test is pinned by Sabu. The Big Show comes in though and you know he’s going to make a difference. Big Show finishes off Sabu leaving Big Show and Finlay against Cena, Kane, and Lashley. Big Show and Kane square off in a staredown. Little Bastard sneaks in then looks at the size of Kane. He wisely bails out of the ring. In the meantime, Finlay sneaks up behind Kane and blasts him with a big piece of wood. That, and a chokeslam are enough for the Big Show to finish off Kane. Things are now even. A somewhat recovered Cena steps in and faces Big Show, followed by Finlay. Things spiral out of control as Lashley and Cena doubleteam the Big Show. Finlay tries to regain control with help from Little Bastard but his efforts are for naught as he is soon pinned. The Big Show faces against Cena and Lashley on his own, putting on a spirited fight. However Lashley and Cena make a good team and they soften the Big Show up enough for Cena to deliver the F-U and get the pin.
WINNER: Team Cena (Survivors: John Cena and Bobby Lashley)
Hype video airs for the Elimination Chamber Match
A video package airs showing King Booker’s ongoing battle with Batista. Ever since Batista’s injury forced Batista to relinquish the SmackDown! title ten months ago, he’s been obsessed with regaining his championship. The fans are reminded that this is Batista’s last chance to win the title.
SmackDown!’s General Manager Teddy Long makes his way to the ring. Teddy Long tells the fans that since Batista agreed to King Booker’s proclamation, this is his last title shot. Teddy Long has decided to add some flavor to the match by ordering that if King Booker gets disqualified or counted out, he will lose the title.
7. World Heavyweight Championship Match: Batista vs. King Booker (Champion) w. Queen Sharmell Cole and JBL reminisce on how Batista cried when he had to relinquish the World Championship. JBL mocks Batista, saying he’s been crying ever since. JBL tells Cole that in a world title match, you do whatever’s necessary, something Batista apparently agrees with. Batista wastes no time in going after Booker, beating him inside and outside of the ring. Queen Sharmell cheers the king on as Booker rallies back. It’s mostly brawling and power moves as Booker puts the heat on Batista. The heat is on both men. This is Batista’s last chance but Booker also knows he has to pin Batista or make him submit. King Booker uses some underhanded tactics to maintain his advantage but the SmackDown! announcers remind the fans that Batista is no stranger to cheating thanks to his time in Evolution. The action spills outside as referee Nick Patrick begins counting both men out. They make it back in as King Booker regains control. King Booker is dominating Batista but Batista looks far from finished. This becomes clear when Batista gets up and delivers a big kick to King Booker, knocking him out of the ring. Batista dishes out a beating outside the ring then tries a new maneuver on King Booker. Batista shocks both King Booker and the fans as he goes to the top rope for a flying shoulderblock, connecting and getting close to a three count. Series of near-falls. King Booker catches Batista with a bookend but he can’t get a three count. Batista responds with the Batista Bomb. Fortunately for the champion, he’s close enough to the ring ropes to get them. Queen Sharmell sneaks the championship belt to Booker T and then proceeds to distract the referee. Batista goes for a Batista Bomb on Queen Sharmell but then decides against it. In the confusion, Booker T goes to hit Batista with the title belt but misses. Batista kicks him and takes the belt for himself. A belt to the head and Batista pins King Booker.
WINNER: Batista (New World Champion!)
Batista celebrates in the ring as JBL accuses Batista of cheating.
