2/26 WWE RAW: Mallory's Ongoing Coverage of the Show
By Mallory Mahling
Welcome to WWI's real-time coverage of Raw. You may need to hit "refresh" from time to time for the latest update. This week Raw airs live from the Save Mart Center at Fresno State University in Fresno, California. If you've been tapping your toe waiting for the big announcement from Donald Trump, you'll find out tonight. If you happened to catch the Don Imus show the other day, you already know. (The Donald might want to consider bringing a cue card with him, since got the name wrong. Whoops!) * * * Jim Ross and Jerry "The King" Lawler welcomed viewers to the show as they hyped the appearance tonight by Donald Trump. (1) World Tag Team Championship Match: Shawn Michaels & John Cena vs. Edge & Randy Orton. Instead of coming to the ring, Orton and Edge appeared on the TitanTron and said they "weren't ready to compete" right then. Instead, they had a message for Michaels. They called HBK an "actor" when he'd told Cena he'd have his back. They wondered if Cena's front and sides were safe. They played tapes of noted betrayals by HBK of former friends: Marty Jannetty, Diesel, Booker T, Hulk Hogan. All had been super kicked. The crowd booed, Cena looked worried, and HBK had an odd look on his face. He mouthed the words "I've got your back" to Cena. Needless to say, the match did not take place. Yet. (Commercial break) Author Mick Foley dropped some names in his taped promo for his book. (2) Qualifying Match for Money in the Bank Match: Jeff Hardy vs. Shelton Benjamin. Supportive chants from the crowd for Jeff of the Rainbow Hair. Benjamin put Hardy in a submission hold and the chants got louder. Must have worked since he sent Shelton flying to the outside. Hardy ran the rail and gave Shelton a clothesline on the outside then rolled him back in. Jeff went up top, and Benjamin joined him there. They sent each other to the mat. Splat! (Commercial break) Returning from the break, Benjamin had Hardy's back and was trying to submit him. Hardy got his second wind and assumed control of the match. Swanton Bomb, 1-2-3, and Jeff Hardy's going to WrestleMania. As Jeff was taking a bow on the ramp, Mister McMahon appeared on the TitanTron to rain on Jeff's parade. McMahon pulled out his "what if" shots of Trump once Vince takes his scissors to Trump's crowning glory. (Commercial break) Ashley took viewers along to her Playboy photo shoot. Melina was shown bitching about all the attention Ashley and Mick Foley were getting. The She Devil herself ought to be getting all the publicity. Whine, whine, whine. Johnny Nitro was listening and finally told her to just shut up. He had more important things on his mind, like having lost the MITB qualifier on ECW last week. (3) Johnny Nitro vs. Super Crazy. Nitro was in a foul mood and took it out on Super Crazy before the bell had even rung. He slammed Crazy into the ring steps and dropped him face-first onto the floor. Then Nitro turned and walked up the ramp. Three matches so far, and two of them have not even taken place. Leyla Milani, former Diva Searcher and current "Deal or No Deal" case holder, was proud to be a member of the Raw Nation. (Commercial break) (4) Melina vs. Maria. Maria was getting the worst of it, which was partly her own fault due to some sloppy moves. As for Melina, she was still in a snit from her earlier promo. Maria rallied and began to show some spunk. She went for a bronco buster, but Melina gave her a low blow and rolled her up for the pin. (Commercial break) A barber pole and a barber chair were set on the stage as Mister McMahon strutted down the ramp. McMahon said you can't go anywhere in the world without hearing about the Battle of the Billionaires at WrestleMania. That's a rather broad statement and probably more boastful than accurate. Anyway, McMahon invited Umaga to join him in the ring. He came out with Armando Alejandro Estrrrrrrrrrada. "You suck," came the chants from the crowd directed at McMahon as he played the "I can do anything better then you can" game. The Donald appeared on the Trump-a-Tron to say he could always do one better than McMahon. He introduced his representative--ECW World Champion Bobby Lashley. The chiseled Lashley headed down the ramp and climbed into the ring. He was not intimidated by Umaga. McMahon asked for security to come down to the ring. A swarm of rent cops came out, but he wanted even more to keep the opponents separated…and to keep his own butt safe. It turned into a brawl. Well, you knew it would. (Commercial break) Chris Masters was in the ring, ready for a MasterLock Challenge. This time, the "victim" would be the Great Khali. (Good luck with that one, Chris.) Masters couldn't even get his arms around Khali to lock it on. Suddenly Kane's music hit and the Big Red Machine headed out. He got rid of Masters with a chair shot and sent Khali over the top rope. I smell a feud. In his office, McMahon was screaming at Coach when his cell phone rang. The person on the other end of the phone wanted to present something to the Board of Directors. It was a board member who was concerned about the integrity of the Trump/McMahon match and he'd suggested a guest referee. McMahon was not pleased that a board member had the nerve to interfere. (Commercial break) Lashley, Edge, Orton and Cena will be on "Deal or No Deal" this coming Sunday night. Lillian Garcia introduced the next inductee into the WWE Hall of Fame--Jerry "The King" Lawler. (Commercial break) (5) Carlito (w/Torrie) vs. Kenny Dykstra. The match was already underway when the show came back from the break. J.R. kept talking about Dykstra being the youngest this and that. Didn't that designation used to belong to Rene Dupree? Dykstra controlled the first part of the match, but the tide turned for Carlito, who even managed to get Dykstra back into the ring from the apron using his neck. Back cracker, cover and the winning pin for Carlito. Ric Flair came out on stage and applauded Carlito, who was very pleased. Coach had packed a bag for the McBoss, who was headed to San Jose for ECW tomorrow night. He intended to make Lashley's life a living hell. (Unless he's walking, he wouldn't need to leave for San Jose from Fresno quite this early.) (Commercial break) (6) World Tag Team Championship Match: Shawn Michaels & John Cena vs. Edge & Randy Orton. If this looks familiar, it was also the first match of the night, except it was postponed by the challengers. The crowd was eating out of Cena's hand--they loved him. Randy Orton was getting his butt kicked, as Cena and HBK teamed up on him. As the match went on, J.R. and Lawler kept talking about Marty Jannetty and the super kick through the barber shop window. I'm almost inclined to think Marty Jannetty will be showing up soon. Cena was getting pummeled by Edge and Orton. Hot tag to Michaels, who tuned up to kick Orton, but nearly kicked Cena instead. "A mistake?" asked the announcers. Hmmmm… (Commercial break) J.R. said the action during the break had been scintillating. Well, thanks a lot for going to break when you knew it would be getting good. Orton kept trying to get HBK to tap out, but he kept getting a shoulder up. He wanted to make the tag to Cena but was too far away. The crowd was going nuts as Michaels finally made the hot tag. Cena was on fire. The referee got knocked down and all four men were in the ring. Edge thought Orton had hit him the with title belt (heeheehee) and left Orton to the wolves…err…Cena and HBK, who retained the tag titles. As the show went off the air, Cena and Michaels seemed to come to an understanding. Of sorts. Next week, the Special Guest Referee will be named. Who will it be????
