Random Thoughts From Matt Dawgs: Senshei, Ivory, Brock Lindsay, Antonella Barba, Raven, and More

...

Random Thoughts, Questions and Ideas.

Seriously, a lot is going on in wrestling right now and rather than sit here and try to think of one long topic to discuss, I’ve decided to take the easy road and let you fans discuss them amongst yourselves via our messages board. So once you’ve read this, feel free to pick a topic of your choosing and go chat about it with others. Deal? Deal.

Here we go:

When you get a chance, find any 15 year old or younger wrestling fan and ask them who is more popular and a better wrestler; “Stone Cold” Steve Austin or John Cena. My guess, Cena wins 95% of the vote.

Honest question, is Wrestlemania 23 better off with or without HHH?

Joanie “Chyna Doll” Laurer is heading down a bad path folks. Just thought I’d point that out.

Is Senshi a heel or a face? He was a heel a few months ago while Sabin was a face. They turned Sabin heel and somehow Senshi is now teaming with Jay Lethal and bowing to Bob Backland. Make him part of LAX already. Gangsta Senshi is GOLD!!!!

I don’t know, So Cal Val is cute and all that but she isn’t as HOT as people make her out to be. I’ll take a Christy Hemme first. I do give So Cal Val tons of props for taking that Black Hole Slam from Abyss like a pro. I was convinced that she was broken in half by it. Amazing bump.

Steve Austin is back. The pop he got was amazing and easily the biggest pop on WWE Television this year. It amazes me how a man who hasn’t wrestled in several years can still draw a crowd and be the biggest and most popular person on a show that features several superstars.

WWE 24/7 Rules. It also reminds me how much better WWE television used to be. Not to bash because WWE has been firing on all cylinders for the past few weeks which some damn good angles and storylines but still. Back then, the fans watching at RAW’s and pay per views were actually into mostly every act. From people like Hardcore Holly to Road Dogg to Austin to McMahon to even minor guys like the Big Bossman and Mideon. Everyone was treated like something special and the fans saw that. Nowadays, everyone who gets a pop is a main eventer and the rest of the card is basically filler. If you were able to take Cryme Tyme or Snitsky and place them in the middle of the Attitude Era, they’d be over with the fans like gangbusters. Instead, they get a good initial pop and then WHAM, they are used as jobbers who mean nothing. It’s like night and day.

Samoa Joe and Kurt Angle are friends this week in case you missed it.

Lisa "Ivory" Moretti is hot. If she was a mom she’d be a MILF. If I weren’t married, I would have asked James to hook me up. Seriously. Just thought I’d mention that in case she is reading this column.

How shocked would you be if Donald Trump had his head shaved?

Raven is “mentoring” the Serotonin. My theory, TNA is going to continue to bring in former ECW Champions and have them mentor people. First it was Shane Douglas “mentoring” the Naturals. Now it is Raven in the same exact angle. Who’s next?

What does Bam Bam Bigelow, Mike Awesome and Bad News Brown have in common?

Give up?

Get your mind out of the gutter! I was going to say that all three were misused by the companies that they worked for and could have been bigger stars than they were.

Dean Malenko used to sell way too much. I was watching some old Nitros on 24/7 and he was defending the Cruiserweight title against Mike Graffiti who looked like Super Calo without the mask and hat (can anyone confirm if it was?) and you would have sworn that Mike was Eddie Guerrero. Dean was selling move after move, being outwrestled, etc. I thought to myself that maybe it was a friend of Dean’s and he was doing him a favor to try and get him a job or something. But the thing is, on the very next week or Nitro, Dean did the same for David Sammartino (son of Bruno). Unbelievable. People like Ice Train are winning squash matches while Dean Malenko, one of the best wrestlers ever is selling to jobbers, A LOT.

The nWo was money. The beginning of the group, they basically ran things. Hearing the crowd pop for Eric Bischoff, Vincent aka Virgil and Ted DiBiase come out to cut a promo is one thing. They leave, go to commercial and when they come back, the nWo music starts all over again for Hall, Nash and Syxx Pac. Funny stuff.

I miss Bret Hart.

Can anyone tell me what Jerry Flynn is up to? Not Jerry Lynn from TNA, Jerry Flynn from WCW.

WWE needs to bring back Bischoff. He still has legs in him as a heel. Bring him into ECW and let him be their GM.

Bobby Lindsay is no Brock Lesnar. While he has potential, he isn’t on Brock’s level and can’t carry Brock’s jock strap. Brock was in another league. For those of you who are pretty new to wrestling and have only heard the name and maybe seen a match or two, you need to find footage of heel bully Lesnar (his second heel run). He was on fire and no heel in the business could touch him at the time. I wish he would smarten up and come back. By the way, did he and Sable get divorced already? It says so on Wikipedia.

Heroes and 24 are the best shows currently on television.

If Batista beats Taker at Mania I promise I will boycott WWE. “Big Dave” either needs to move down the card, step his game up or call it a career. Staying the course that he is currently in is not going to cut it anymore.

Older fans, if Rick Rude hadn’t passed away in the midst of training for a comeback and would have went to WWE and feuded with Austin, would he have eventually become World Champ?

50 Cent’s Get Rich or Die Trying isn’t a bad movie. It is similar to Eminem’s 8 Mile in which it is semi-autobiographical. Funny to see “Dangerous” the rapper since he is supposed to be Ja-Rule. Watch it, not a bad hour and a half of your time.

Antonella Barba is one hot piece of 20 year old tail. She better pose for playboy or something though because her 15 minutes are almost up now that she is a goner from American Idol.

CM Punk is going to get a push. Mark my words. He is way too talented to let all the B.S. that is surrounding him bother him. He knows he is good. He knows he has talent. He is going to sit and let all of this blow over to the point that eventually someone is going to smarten up and push him. FYI….everything is a test. Ask Al Pacino and Colin Farrell.

For everyone who works in WWE, do yourself a favor and let Arn Anderson coach you on promos. The man had “IT”

Destination X this Sunday on pay per view. I don’t plan on ordering it as I have a previous real life commitment to attend to however if either AJ Styles or Rhino isn’t seriously injured, I will be surprised. Not that I wish injury on either of them because I don’t but after watching TNA, that scaffold doesn’t look very safe. God bless them as they are braver men than I am.

Christian Cage is someone WWE missed the boat on. He is all sorts of Awesome as a heel champion in TNA. Had he been World Champ while Edge was WWE champ, WWE would have been incredible.

Who would have thought that Edge and Christian would be the best main event heels of 2007 a few years back?

Random question, if I would have told you that 10 years ago, Marky Mark and The Fresh Prince would have been Academy Award Nominees in the same year, what would you have told me?

Why can’t TNA be simple? They overbook everything, rarely have actual long matches on TV and yet when it comes to selling a pay per view, they have you at the edge of your seats with cool video packages and backstories/history?

I love Double Double E no more. Vladimier Koslov aka Boris Alexiov is no longer being brought to the main roster. In case you didn’t hear, Vince McMahon asked if he was ready to be put into action at a production meeting. Several agents/producers said no and that he was still very green. McMahon blew a gasket and complained that they were wasting TV time on him if he wasn’t ready and sent him back to the minors. Funny thing is, the only reason he was brought up to the main roster was because many felt he was the type of person McMahon would want. McMahon knew nothing about him and liked the gimmick they were giving him but had no clue he didn’t know a wrist lock from a wrist watch.

Same goes for Daniel Rodimer. He has all the physical tools and he is decent on the microphone apparently. There was talk of making him Rated RKO’s bodyguard. That idea has since been scrapped due to the Koslov situation. The very next day after the Koslov situation, Stephanie McMahon sent a memo to her staff asking about Rodimer. She was informed he was less ready for prime time than Koslov so they held off on bringing him up. Credit Dave Meltzer.

I missed WWE on Deal or No Deal. Anyone know when it is replaying? They replay it on CNBC I think. I just don’t know when.

The Condemned actually looks better than The Marine. I know that isn’t saying much but still.

Bring back K-Fed.

What’s with the AWA love? Nick Bockwinkel? Good talent and deserving of the WWE Hall of Fame but why this year? They could have used that spot for someone more deserving from within the WWE/NWA/WCW no? Nick could have went in next year especially since Verne Gagne went in last year.

Ok folks, that is all for now. Hope you enjoyed the format. Feel free to discuss whatever you’d like in the Anger Management section of the message board or whichever section you see fit.

~Matt Dawgs

World Wrestling Insanity writer Matt Dawgs is the bread and butter of the World Wrestling Insanity family. His future is bright and once James Guttman comes into a large sum of money, you can expect Matt will be getting tons of it thrown at him, at least half of it. Matt also moonlights as a professional wrestler/manager in the NY/NJ Indy scene. He is legit afraid of getting on Homicide’s bad side but thinks he is a cool dude in general. He also is a funny guy. If you have any questions, corrections, feedback, comments and ideas, he can be reached at matt@worldwrestlinginsanity.com. If the feedback is negative, you can e-mail Matt at insanity@worldwrestlinginsanity.com.

P.S. – In case you didn’t know, there is a WRESTLING BOOK that is out titled “World Wrestling Insanity”. It is a damn fun read so I suggest you run out and get it today. If you already have your copy, read it. If you already read your copy, read it again. It is funny. Like me.

Also, don’t forget to check out our new section, ClubWWI.com. It can be found by clicking the banner at the top of this page. Check out all the new audio updates and features found there. Some good stuff including all of James Guttman’s past Radio Free Insanity broadcasts as well as all new, uncut interviews with some of wrestling past and present names. Good stuff people.
