UFC - The Ultimate Fighter 5: Mallory's Recap of Episode 3

By Mallory Mahling
Apr 19, 2007, 23:09

...

Last week, Manny had won the fight, which meant Team Pulver was still in control of choosing the fights.

Fat Gabe complained that everyone was harping on his weight. He decided to get a colonic to cut weight and managed to persuade BJ and Dana to let him go through with it.

Manny inherited the TUF belt and wore it proudly.

Nate was still whining about the writing on the wall from the first episode and said he'd like to fight Emerson to get even.  *Foreshadowing*

BJ and his assistant coaches gathered the team together to discuss Gabe's decision to get the colonic. They were a bit weary of his self-absorption.

The Bad Corey came out during training. He was in a zone of his own. Perhaps the Twilight Zone.

Corey was wanting to square off with Fat Gabe.

The guest coach this week was Jeremy Horn. Corey said he didn't have cable and didn't know who Horn was but was eager to learn what he had to offer. Horn saw great potential in Corey and suggested that he continue to train with him after the season was over.

Fat Gabe showed up for his colonic, where viewers got a little too much information. Suffice it to say, we all know that Gabe is full of sh*t.  (He was already looking forward to the second one.  This guy is weird.)

When Gabe showed up at training, his team had figured him out and were not impressed. They concluded that it was all about the attention it got him.

Nate was embarrassed that Gabe was making the guys look bad with his behavior back at the house, which included, among other things, Fat Gabe wearing a thong at the pool. Again, too much information about Gabe.

Time to pick the fight, and Dana asked Jens to announce his choices. As foreshadowed earlier, this week's fight will be Team Penn's Nate Diaz vs. Rob Emerson.

Dana provided the backstory about Nate and his brother, Nick. "The Diaz Brothers are angry at everyone," he added. No kidding.

Nate went back to the house and did some writing on the walls. He wrote his home towns--Stockton, Lodi and Manteca in California's Big Valley.

Back at the house, Rob Emerson said he was from Southern California. His demeanor was considerably more laid back than Nate's.

In the background, the housemates were "decorating" the TUF House with a homemade basketball hoop and some Shoney Carter painting projects.

Each was confident that he would be victorious. Rob said if Nate wanted to make it personal, that was fine with him.

It was time for the fight with Herb Dean as the referee. The first round was mostly stand-up and ended with Jens telling Nate to remember why he was there. BJ seemed pleased by Emerson's efforts. Each appeared to be giving as good as he got.

Round two saw Nate back Rob into the fence. Nate finally took Rob down to the mat, and Rob was looking tired. Nate with a flurry of punches, which Rob didn't answer. He looked to be just trying to survive. Nate got Rob's back, and with 17 seconds left in the second round, Nate won by submission.

Nate Diaz was announced as the winner via rear naked choke.

Dana was pleased with the fight and said it was one of the best TUF fights of all five seasons.

Emerson felt bad, but BJ reminded him of the lion in a fighter's heart.

Next week: More fights in the Octagon--and out of it.
