It's "Real-Time" Mike Rickard in the house. Whether you're saving thirty bucks to pick up a new crochet needle for Grandma or you just need someone to explain what the hell is going on, I'll be here for the whole show.
Christy Hemme conducts a scientific poll between two fans as to who is going to win the Joe/Angle rematch. Judging by Dr. Hemme's poll, the fans are split down the middle.
Backstage, Jeremy Borash interviews Robert Roode and Miss Brooks. Roode derides the Inter-Gender Bikini Match between Eric Young and Miss Brooks. Miss Brooks promises to prove her worth to Roode by winning the bikini contest no matter what it takes. She says she'll even get buck naked if necessary.
"Shillmaster" Don West and Mike Tenay run down tonight's line-up.
Jeremy Borash is interviewing Father James Mitchell and Abyss. Mitchell knocks Abyss' opponents for tonight's three-way bout for the NWA World Championship. Abyss doesn't seem quite right and James Mitchell starts to browbeat him, reminding him of all he's done for him.
Ron "The Truth" Killings and Lance Hoyt vs. Serotonin (Maverick Matt, Kazarian, and Johnny Devine) w. Raven -Tenay and West talk about the Killings/Hoyt team and how much they've improved in the last few weeks. Serotonin use the 3 on 2 numbers advantage to gain the upper hand against Lance Hoyt. Hoyt makes the hot tag to Killings who cleans house. Things deteroriate as Lance Hoyt joins in and Killings/Hoyt clear out Devine and Maverick Matt. A big boot by Hoyt weakens up Kazarian and Killings polishes him off with the scissors kick for the pinfall.
WINNERS: KILLINGS & HOYT
Jeremy Borash interviews Chris Sabin and special referee Jerry Lynn. Sabin questions Lynn's ability to call the match with his physical ailments including his cataracts, Alzheimer's, and diaper rash. Lynn says he's had enough of Sabin's smart-ass remarks and tells him he was busy building up the X Division when Sabin was a fan buying tickets. Lynn tells Sabin that judging by his performance in the ring, he belongs in the seats as a fan.
Back in the Impact center, Raven and Seratonin bring Kazarian into the ring for a caning (since he lost the match against Killings/Hoyt).
1. PAPARAZZI CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES (Senshi vs. Jay Lethal vs. Alex Shelley vs. Sonjay Dutt vs. Austin Starr)
Self-proclaimed X Division Legend Kevin Nash joins Mike Tenay and Don West at the announce table. This elimination match is step 1 of Nash's Paparazzi Championship Series. Each week on Impact, there will be an additional challenge with points awarded depending on a wrestler's performance (5 pts. for winner, 4 pts. for runner-up, etc.) Lethal and Shelley square off with Shelley tagging in Starr. Lethal and Dutt tag in and out, double-teaming Shelley. The match really heats up as Senshi and Dutt square off. Austin Starr invites himself into the ring and he clotheslines Dutt and then puts the boots to Senshi. Tensions rise between Shelley and Starr as they argue about Shelley trying to tag into the match.
Dutt applies the Camel Clutch to Shelley. Shelley goes for the rope break but Austin Starr isn't going to help him. Shelley taps out. Jay Lethal and Dutt match up. Senshi bursts in and surprises Lethal with a dropkick out of nowhere, pinning him (no explanation as to why Senshi was allowed to come in without a tag. Gotta love that Russo booking). Dutt's been in the ring for a while now and it's starting to show. Senshi tags in Starr who continues the beatdown on Dutt.
Starr and Senshi form a temporary alliance, making quick tags to deliver punishment to Dutt without having to expend too much energy individually. Dutt avoids a charge by Starr and lands a springboard dropkick on Starr for the near fall. Dutt applies the Camel Clutch to Starr but Senshi comes in for the save. Series of nearfalls by Dutt on Starr. Starr hits a brainbuster followed by a 450 splash on Dutt for the pin.
Senshi and Starr square off exhanging chops. Starr goes for a 450 splash on Senshi but Alex Shelley comes out to distract him. The distraction is just enough to slow Starr down and Senshi ducks out of the way. Senshi takes Starr by surprise and rolls him up for the pin.
WINNER: Senshi
At ringside, Starr asks Kevin Nash if he saw what Alex Shelley did. Shelley and Starr bicker with each other.
Jeremy Borash is backstage with Eric Young. Borash tells Young that Ms. Brooks has made it clear she'll do anything to win.
VIDEO: Recap airs of the events leading up to tonight's bikini challenge between Eric Young and Miss Brooks.
2. BIKINI CONTEST Ms Brooks (w. Robert Roode) vs. Eric Young: Young makes his way to ringside in a bathrobe and slippers. Young looks a little reluctant to get in the ring but he gets lots of motivation from the fans at ringside. Borash tells the fans that this exhibition of exhibitionism will be decided by the fans. Borash announces that Brooks won a coin toss and has decided to strip first. Brooks does a slow striptease as Don West estimates her breast size at 40D. Brooks is wearing a two piece swimsuit and not a bikini (there's no way she could get away with a bikini top with her boobs being as big as they are). Eric Young doesn't want to disrobe but Jeremy Borash encourages him. Young takes off his robe to reveal a t-shirt with a picture of a bikini on it. Roode is none too pleased with Young's antics and threatens to have him fired. Young says he's not finished yet and he takes off his shirt, revealing Sponge Bob Squarepants underwear. Referee Slick Johnson says that since Young isn't wearing a bikini, he is disqualified. Young pleads for one more chance and bashfully looks around behind taking down his shorts to reveal a SpongeBob bikini bottom. The fans are going nuts. Borash asks the fans for their vote. Mix of cheers and boos for Ms. Brooks. Eric Young doesn't look confident but the fans make it clear that Eric Young is their winner.
WINNER: Eric Young
After Young is announced as the winner, Bobby Roode Pearl Harbors Young but Young gets back to his feet and bails out to safety. Robert Roode gets on the microphone and browbeats Ms Brooks. He's sick of Brooks and he's sick of Young. Roode says it's time for Brooks to make things up to him. She needs to do whatever it takes to get a match signed between Eric Young and Robert Roode Inc. Roode tells her that if she doesn't get the match signed, Eric Young won't be the one getting fired.
Kind of stupid but Young made it entertaining. He really is over with the fans and does a great job as a comedy character.
Backstage, TNA's new blonde backstage interview chick finds her work interrupted by some fat guy ala Big Dick Johnson. Just awful.
3. X Division Championship Match: Chris Sabin vs. "Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels (Champion)
Special referee Jerry Lynn enters the ring first. Sabin takes control early with a side headlock. Sabin's cockiness shows and Daniels capitalizes by slapping an armlock on sabin. Series of Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat-like armdrags. Daniels goes back to the armlock and beats some respect out of Sabin by bouncing his head off the mat while applying the armlock. Split-leg moonsault by Daniels for a two-count.
Sabin shifts the momentum, catching Daniels with a drop toehold. A springboard dropkick knocks Daniels out of the ring where Sabin follows him out, hiptossing Daniels onto the entrance ramp. Sabin
Tenay points out that Daniels has been competing largely in tag team action of late and wonders if this is affecting Daniels' performance. Sabin controls the match, working on Daniels' neck and back with dropkicks, elbowsmashes, and headlocks. A series of rights and a clothesline by Daniels helps him get back in control. Backbreaker on Sabin for a nearfall. Daniels goes to set up Sabin for the Angel Wings but Sabin slips out and runs out of the ring. Daniels brawls briefly outside with Sabin. Daniels delivers an amazing elbowdrop outside the ring to Sabin.
Both wrestlers begin exchanging holds, vying for the win. Things look to be going Sabin's way as he lands a DDT on Daniels. Death Valley Driver on Sabin. Daniels slips in a submission hold on Sabin's neck but Sabin makes it to the ropes. Sabin delivers a running kick to Daniels but it quickly becomes apparent that Daniels has the edge as he lands a Best Moonsault Ever (BME) out of nowhere and gets the 1-2-3.
WINNER: Christopher Daniels
Following the match, Jerry Lynn asks Sabin to show some sportsmanship and shake Daniels hand. Daniels doesn't want any part of it, saying he doesn't need Sabin's respect. Lynn is taken back at Daniels' response and begins arguing with him. When Daniels goes to walk away, Lynn slaps him. TNA referees rush in to break things up. Good X Division match. Nothing special though.
TNA authority figure James Cornette enters the ring for a special ceremony where he welcomes Dale Torberg and A.J. Stracynski of the Chicago White Sox. He then welcomes World Series MVP David Eckstein and his brother Rick. Cornette congratulates Eckstein on the award as well as his new book "Have a Heart". Eckstein tells Cornette about his book and mentions Lance Hoyt is one of his favorite wrestlers. The Impact Center goes silent as the fans don't seem to care. However things heat up when the White Sox players start ripping pages out of the book. The Sox then lay out the Ecsteins before Lance Hoyt runs in for the save.
VIDEO: Recap of the events leading up to tonight’s match. Styles is wary of Rhino and Rhino’s attempts to “help” Styles and Daniels patch up their differences.
INTERVIEW: Jeremy Borash interviews Rhino about his match with Styles. Rhino says he’s the kind of person who’s willing to let people help him and he can’t understand why Styles refused his help. Rhino finds his question unanswered as Styles attacks him from behind. The two men start brawling out into the Impact Center.
4. Rhino vs. A.J. Styles-after five minutes of wild brawling outside the ring, the bell finally rings and the match gets underway officially. It’s not long before both men are outside the ring again. Rhino delivers a devastating suplex on Styles outside the ring. Rhino relies on his power moves to counter the superior technical skills of Styles, executing a powerful spinebuster for a nearfall. Styles woes continue as he's tossed over the top rope and lands awkwardly on his knee. The referee signals for the trainers as Styles looks like he's finished (Or is he?) As it looks like the match is going to end prematurely, Styles runs into the ring and rolls up Rhino for the win.
WINNER: A.J. Styles
After the match, Rhino chases Styles to the back as West and Tenay acknowledge Styles fooled them and the fans in the Impact Center.
Good brawling but more Russoesque booking with the "fake your injury" bit.
Backstage, TNA's blonde announcer runs into a Vince McMahon lookalike. The faux Vinnie says if TNA can invade his show, he's going to invade theirs. He's carrying a cock in a cage and he tells the announcer she's fired.
After that awful segment, things go wild in the Impact Center as Rhino and Styles are seen brawling in the crowd.
VIDEO: Recap of the rapidly escalating feud between the LAX and AMW.
INTERVIEW: Konnan is standing with the Latin American Exchange (LAX) and announcer Jeremy Borash. Konnan continues his message that the LAX is taking things over in TNA and America.
5, FLAG MATCH :America's Most Wanted ("Wildcat" Chris Harris & "Tennessee Cowboy" James Storm) w. Gail Kim vs. LAX (Homicide & Hernandez) w. Konnan
The match is a variant of the ladder match. In order to win the match, a team must get its flag from a pole on the corner, then mount a ladder to place it. Wild match with Gail Kim doing everything she can to give her team the advantage. The LAX get to their flag first but it doesn't take AMW long before they get their flag too. With both teams laid out, Gail Kim grabs the U.S. flag and climbs the ladder to set up the flag. However Konnan quickly stops her, knocking her off the ladder and blasting her with the fork. Konnan takes the U.S. flag and puts it back in its corner. Petey Williams does a run-in and goes for the Canadian Destroyer on Konnan. Hernandez stops things with a clothesline though, saving Konnan. Homicide and Harris grab their respective flags and run to the top of the ladder. Neither man can secure the flag though. James Storm breaks the bottle over Homicide's head but glass flies into Harris' eyes. In the confusion, Hernandez makes it to the top of the ladder and hangs the Mexican flag securely.
WINNERS: LAX
After the match, Gail Kim yells at Storm. Konnan grabs the stick and tells the fans to acknowledge the Mexican National Anthem. He tells the fans that tonight is a first as no U.S. team has ever lost a flag match until tonight.
After a video, James Storm is seen near the entrance ramp deriding Harris for doing what he always does-quitting. Storm demands that Harris show up on Impact to apologize for losing the match.
The Voodoo Kin Mafia (B.G.James & Kyp James) are in the ring dressed as Triple H and Shawn Michaels. A faux Spirit Squad runs out only to be stopped by the power of the faux DX. The Voodoo Kin Mafia then call out the "fat oily guy" before taking off their costumes. B.G. James then grabs the microphone and tells the fans that they're going to show the difference between parody and reality tv. What the fans just saw was parody. What's next is reality. B.G. James calls out Vince, labeling him a hypocrite because the WWE attorneys supposedly told the Voodoo Kin Mafia to stop showing up at WWE shows, a tactic Vince himself used during the Monday Night War. B.G. then puts out a challenge for McMahon and DX. The Voodoo Kin Mafia are offering one million dollars cash as incentive for DX to meet them.
INTERVIEW: Jeremy Borash interviews Christian Cage (w. Tomko) about his chance to regain the NWA Championship. Cage mocks Sting's attempts to help Abyss. He tells Sting it isn't about saving lives or saving souls; it's about Christian Cage and his regaining something he never lost.
6. NWA World Heavyweight Championship Match: Christian Cage (w. Tomko) vs. Sting vs. NWA Champion Abyss (w. “Father” James Mitchell)
As Cage enters the ring, West and Tenay point out that Cage has never been pinned during his stint in TNA. Tenay posits that James Mitchell managed to get into Sting’s head and that’s why he lost the belt to Abyss at Genesis. Before the bell sounds, Tomko gets into Abyss' face as Tenay and West bring up the rumored past between Abyss and Tomko. Sting goes after both Cage and Christian, knocking both of his foes out of the ring. Wasting no time, the Stinger dives off the top rope with a cross body block to both Cage and Abyss. Seeing his man in trouble, Tomko goes after Sting and lays him out by tossing him into the steel ring barrier.
Back in the ring, Abyss is working over Christian Cage. He turns his attention to Sting and keeps the Stinger from returning to the ring. During this break, Cage delivers a DDT to Abyss and finds himself in the driver's seat. With help from Tomko, Cage works over Abyss while keeping Sting from getting back into the ring. However Abyss' reslinecy keeps him in the game and he catches Cage as he tries to execute a move off the top rope. Sting surprises Abyss and Cage, delivering a tower of doom to both Abyss and Cage. With Abyss dazed, Sting continues his offense by delivering a Stinger Splash to Abyss. Cage tries some fisticuffs on Sting but Sting resists the attack and hurls Cage into Abyss, following up with another Stinger Splash. Sting puts Cage into the Scorpion Deathlock but an eyerake by Cage saves him.
With Mitchell and Tomko at ringside, things are getting crazy. Sting puts Cage back in the Scorpion Deathlock but Mitchell jumps to the apron, distracting Sting and causing him to break the hold. Tomko tosses the NWA championship belt to Cage but when Cage tries to hit Sting, the Stinger ducks out of the way. Sting delivers a Stinger Death Drop and goes for the pin but Tomko pulls the referee out of the ring, breaking up the pin. Abyss and Sting start brawling when Abyss gains an advantage. James Mitchell tosses the bag of tacks into the ring but Abyss is reluctant to use them. Abyss then goes for the chokeslam on Christian but Tomko stops it with a devastating kick to Abyss face followed up by driving Abyss face into the tacks. The Stinger clears Cage and Tomko out then goes to check on Abyss. However Abyss goes after Sting, forcing the Stinger to put compassion aside and put Abyss in the Scorpion Deathlock. Ever the opportunist, Christian Cage blasts Sting with a chair. However Abyss is still there and he delivers a Black Hole Slam to capitalize on things, pinning Sting.
WINNER: Abyss
INTERVIEW: Kurt Angle tells Samoa Joe that no matter what happens tonight, this will be their last match.
7. Samoa Joe vs. Kurt Angle
Jeremy Borash introduces Kurt Angle followed by Samoa Joe. A “You tapped out” chant is heard in the Impact Zone along with a “Joe’s Gonna Kill You” chant. Don West notes that Samoa Joe has to win this match tonight. It’s not about streaks anymore, it’s about pride. Angle knocks Joe down and slaps a wristlock on him before Joe powers out. Angle goes for the single leg takedown as Joe powers his way to the ropes for the break. No clean break from Angle though as Angle kicks Joe on his way out. Stiff shortarm clothesline on Angle as Joe explodes with a frantic series of punches, chops, and kicks. Angle crumbles in the corner. Joe continues his furious assault by clotheslining Angle over the top rope. Angle recovers though and the two start brawling at ringside. Angle makes it clear it's time for payback as he rams Joe's head into the steel ring steps twice before walking back into the ring. Angle continues the brutality before changing from brawling into grappling. Samoa Joe reverses things and puts a keylock on Angle but Angle quickly reverses things, Neither man is slowing down despite some serious punishment dealt out by both.
Angle goes back to grappling, employing a chinlock on Joe that quickly becomes a chokehold until the referee breaks the hold. Waistlock by Angle until Joe breaks out with a series of elbowsmashes followed by an overhead release suplex. Joe puts on the Kokina clutch but Angle headbutts his way out and delivers a series of German suplexes.
Despite the punishment, neither man is letting up. Joe tries the Kokina clutch but can't keep it. Likewise with Angle who tries the Anklelock to no avail. Joe goes for the Musclebuster but Angle rolls out and slaps the Anklelock back on Joe. Joe holds out though and rolls out of the hold. Angle lands an Olympic Slam on Joe and tries a pin but Joe kicks out. With Joe weakened, Angle returns to the the anklelock. Joe gets out again and reverses Angle into the Kokina Clutch. Once again things are reversed as Angle applies the Ankelock only to find himself in the Kokina Clutch. Breaking out, Angle goes back to the Ankle lock. Joe is trapped in the center of the ring but he's powering his way to the ropes and his determination pays off.
Angle tries a suplex off the top rope but Joe headbutts his way out, knocking Angle down. Joe goes for a move off the top rope but he's slow to move and Angle rushes back up, this time connecting with the suplex off the top rope. When Angle goes for another Olympic Slam, Joe slips out. Unfortunately referee Rudy Charles gets knocked over in the confusion. Joe places the Kokina Clutch on Angle but there's no official to note it. Joe goes to revive the referee and Angle capitalizes by kicking Joe square in the nuts. As Joe tries to recover, Angle grabs a chair and goes to blast Angle. Joe ducks though and the chair bounces off the rope and on to Angle's head. Joe quickly locks the Kokina Clutch back but Angle's not ready to quit. He reaches for Joe's ankle but there's just not enough gas in the tank for Angle to do anything but tap out.
WINNER: Samoa Joe
Excellent match. Cool finish and you know there's going to be a rubber match. Angle's not happy with the results of the match. Where do things go from here?
Good show. TNA needs to focus more on things like Joe/Angle and less like the antics of the Voodoo Kin Mafia and the WTF finishes like Styles/Rhino.
