By James Guttman
Nov 13, 2005, 15:51
Vince McMahon opened the conference by introducing
himself and Chavo Guerrero.
McMahon takes questions:
When asked how Eddie Guerrero passed away, Chavo says
it's still pending.
When asked what happened, Chavo said that he received
a call from security that Eddie had missed his wake up
call. He went to the room, checked on him, called 911,
and did CPR.
Chavo says nothing was wrong last night. They checked
in. Chavo says he spoke to him 30 minutes after he checked
in and he was fine.
They checked in at 12:30am and heard from security at
7:30am.
When asked about the size of this loss, Vince says "huge
loss. Eddie Guerrero was one of the more stellar performers
in the history of our business." Says the Guerrero
family had a rich tradition in the business and that Eddie
is a performer that few can excel to be.
Vince was then asked if anything would be done tonight.
He answered "Yes. We are going to be having a tribute
show for Eddie tonight." Confirms both Raw and Smackdown.
Says that Eddie's friends in the lockeroom will give their
memories on the tribute shows.
Vince says that performing will be voluntary and that
all the superstars know Eddie would want this show to
go on.
When someone says, "Sounds like the show is changing."
Vince says it is "changing as we speak."
Chavo confirms that he will be participating at the show.
When asked about the loss to his family, Chavo says that
they've never had a tragedy like this with someone taken
so young. Says it has devastated the family. He talks
about Eddie's family. When asked if his family wanted
him to return home, Chavo says that they wanted him to
be a part of the tribute show.
Chavo then says that Eddie's wife is not handling this
well. She was contacted face-to-face with the news.
His last moments with Eddie last night were normal. They
were supposed to meet for breakfast, but did not. Chavo
saw Eddie get on the plane in Phoenix and they watched
a movie on the plane.
Says that Eddie would have is four year sobriety on 11/15.
When asked if he thinks drugs or alcohol played a role
in his death, Chavo said it "would surprise me very
much."
When questions rose about whether this was the residual
effects of past usage, McMahon says it's speculation.
He says an autopsy would let us know.
A follow up question asked if Eddie's drug recovery inspired
wrestlers or fans. Chavo says it has and McMahon says
that Eddie was passionate about his faith as a born again
Christian. He says that he became born again in 2000.
Vince says that Eddie would have royalties coming "forever"
and they will go to his family.
McMahon says that they are all saddened by Eddie's passing.
He would have wanted the show to go on. He says that fans
arriving at the arena who do not know about the passing
will know tonight when they see the tribute. They confirm
that this happened at the Marriott.
Final comments from Chavo reiterate that Eddie would
have wanted the show to go on. He says that Eddie had
a big heart and will be missed by family, friends, and
fans.
