2/1 TNA IMPACT: Mallory’s Ongoing Coverage of the Show

Good evening and welcome to ongoing coverage of TNA Impact. Tonight’s show was taped earlier this week in Orlando, Florida.

Mike Tenay and Don West welcomed viewers to the show.

Outside Jim Cornette’s office, Chris Sabin was pretending to be a senior citizen. Could it have anything to do with Mr. Backlund who was sitting right behind him? Nope, actually he was mocking 43-year-old Jerry Lynn.

Alex Shelley presented Tenay with a DVD on his way to the ring.

Chris Sabin used a walker to get to the ring.

(1) X-Division Showcase: Jay Lethal vs. Alex Shelley vs. Sanjay Dutt vs. The Austin Starr vs. Jerry Lynn. Jerry Lynn--despite his “advanced age“--looked tremendous in the ring. All of them did, really.

Sabin, wearing Depends, climbed up on the apron to distract Lynn, giving the Austin Starr the opportunity to pin Lynn for the win.

Christian was giving Tomko orders backstage and told him to “take one for the team.” Tomko walked off staying he’d think about it.

The DVD from Paparazzi Productions was aired. It was LAX trashing a restaurant and threatening to chop the chef’s finger off.  Wouldn't want to eat at that restaurant.

Samoa Joe headed to the ring and said he’d clarify his position of Official Enforcer at "Against All Odds." Christian appeared on the TNA-Tron, and said both of them knew the truth. Cage said if Angle were watching, tonight he’d get a third hint.

Jeremy Borash was outside Cornette’s office with a pitch for text messaging. He reminded me a lot of Mean Gene and his incessant hot line pitches.

Cowboy James Storm and Miss Tennessee cut a promo for the PPV, then Eric Young walked up to discuss his purchase of…uh…something.

Meanwhile, Mr. Backlund kept getting up and saying words which had nothing to do with anything at all. Sort of like Ron Simmons saying a single "DAMN."

Christy Hemme and VKM went into Cornette’s office.

James Mitchell and Abyss were in search of Sting.

Miss Brooks’ tactics to get Eric Young to sign a contract were chronicled.

(2) Robert Roode (w/Miss Brooks) vs. Petey Williams (w/Gail Kim). Roode pie-faced Williams and it was on. They took their battle to the outside, then Roode rolled Williams back into the ring.

The ladies on the outside started a cat fight, then James Storm jumped into the ring and interfered. That gave Roode a chance to make the winning pin on Williams.

Eric Young jumped into the ring, too, and gave Miss Tennessee a standing drop kick. An angry Roode pulled Brooks out of the ring and yelled at her, and Young came to Miss Brooks’ defense. She walked up the ramp arm-in-arm with Young and that made Roode smile.

In Cornette’s office, Christy Hemme and VKM were screaming at each other. Hemme demanded an apology from VKM and insisted they be fired. Cornette had a better idea and gave Christy a match at "Against All Odds" since she wants to wrestle.

TNA had its own version of “The Marine” starring Ron Killings. It was a funny spoof.

Last week, after burning Sting with a fireball, Abyss wanted more. It seems James Mitchell had made a demand for a Prison Yard Match at "Against All Odds." He came out to the ring, which was bathed in a red light to match is red suit. He addressed Sting, saying he’d been deserving of the fireball burn. Mitchell was angry at Sting for saying Abyss had shot his father. He called Abyss a domestic animal he’d trained. He said the milk had not run out of his cash cow, and he’d sent Abyss to find Sting to pay for his crimes. He could show the tape of Sting kidnapping him to the authorities, which would impress the Little Stingers. Or the second choice would be to participate in a Prison Yard Match at "Against All Odds." One way or another, Sting would serve his time.

The lights flashed, and Sting was shown up in the rafters.  He was wearing an Abyss-like mask over his bandaged face.

Borash was speaking with Brother Devon backstage. He said he was usually a man of few words, but he said there would be hell to pay because LAX had disrespected his family. He and his brother would teach LAX a lesson in respect.

(3) AJ Styles vs. Samoa Joe. Loud chants of “Joe’s Gonna Kill You.” Now THAT was a match for as long as it lasted. Two wrestlers who can give it their all, tell a story and leave you wanting more. Unfortunately, Rhino came out and chased Styles to the back. The match was ruled a no-contest.

Joe grabbed a mic and set up a steel chair in the ring, sat down, and said he was not leaving until Christian Cage came out.

(Commercial break)

Kurt Angle came out instead. Angle called Joe a liar, and he got a bunch of right hands for his trouble. Then Cage came out. Joe gave him the finger, and took him on, too. The ring was filling up. AJ Styles came out and helped Cage take out Joe and Angle.

Good show, which set up “Against All Odds” and created intrigue.
