Mallory's Thoughts on Edge, Mick Foley, Jeff Jarrett, and "Fake" NASCAR

When all else fails, blame it on wrestling…
Professional wrestling makes a handy target when someone is looking to place blame anywhere but where it belongs. The latest to play the blame game is NASCAR driver Tony Stewart who compared NASCAR's officiating to wrestling. Why? He lost a race due to--according to him--the authenticity of the many debris cautions near the end of recent races. Would this have been a problem if Tony had won the race? Of course not.
In the aftermath of his headline-making comments, Tony was fined $10,000 and put on probation for the rest of the year, not for his inflammatory statements, but for blowing off his post-race media obligations as a top three finisher. Although Tony claimed not to know the meeting with the media was mandatory, not reading the fine print on the entry blank is no excuse.
After a come-to-Jesus meeting with NASCAR officials, Tony promised to take his beefs directly to NASCAR before shooting of his mouth.
So, did Tony learn anything from all this? It's doubtful, since he wrecked on the final lap at Talladega last weekend and publicly flipped off the "no talent" driver he held responsible.
That's a no-no, too. No word on a fine, if any, but Tony really needs to get a grip on his temper.
After all, discretion is the better part of valor.
Gimmick infringement on wheels…
Have you seen the ads for the new Ford Edge? I keep wondering why McMahon Incorporated hasn't hauled the Ford Motor Company into court for gimmick infringement. Edge the Vehicle is a bad-ass car designed to appeal to the young. Sort of like Edge the Wrestler. Sounds like a blatant rip-off to me.
Just a thought.
One too many visits to the literary well…
I have finally finished Mick Foley's third autobiography. I say finally, because it took me about a month to read it, a page or two at a time. Foley's first two autobiographies were genuine page-turners. This third one? Not so much. I kept reading, hoping it would get better, but it didn't. His homage to Melina, Christy Canyon and Vince McMahon's Behind bored me silly.
Clothes make the man…
Jeff Jarrett returned to TNA after a long absence and gave an impassioned promo. Although he'd ditched the pastel jeans, he was no better dressed. I missed the first part of his promo, so maybe he was supposed to look like a bum. That was definitely the impression he gave wearing a pair of faded jeans with paint spatters on them and a wrinkled shirt that was at least a size too small. The top button seemed ready to pop off and put someone's eye out. As he talked, I kept staring at that button and thinking he was in need of an intervention from Stacey and Clinton of "What Not to Wear."
It's been said that clothes made the man--but then this is the guy who wore that strappy white spandex outfit for years, so maybe it's just hopeless.
