Survivor Series -- Getting Voted Off the Island
Now that the most recent season of "Survivor" has concluded, it got me to thinking about WWE's "Survivor Series" and how it might be fun to put these guys and gals out in the wild for some real surviving.
Now let's see…which of the Divas and Divos would be good contestants? Certainly Umaga would be at the top of the list. He looks like he just came in from the wild anyway. Next would be Divas in bikinis, a mainstay of "Survivor," along with John Cena, as the stalwart hero type, Edge as the conniving contestant, Shawn Michaels as--what else--the heartbreaker, Ric Flair as the father figure, and, of course, Carlito, who has so much hair he'd be able to hide the Immunity Idol in it.
Rounding out the cast would be Mister McMahon in the Jeff Probst role. It would give him an excuse to say YOU'RE FIRED in a different way by simply saying "The tribe has spoken."
So would the winner get a million dollars? Nope. But the sole Survivor would win a title shot in his or her respective category.
Just a thought. I'd watch it.
Requiem for ECW
I washed my hands of ECW long before WWE's geriatric Chairman of the Board assumed the ECW Championship and began to wear two hats -- literally. It's been almost comical to see how he manages to mix and match his wardrobe to blend his businessman persona with his championship persona -- for instance, the incongruity of the 'do rag with the Brooks Brothers suit.
Anyway, when I was sorting through a box of old CD's recently, I came across one with old ECW entrance music on it. I slid it into my CD player and suddenly all those old E-C-Dub feelings came flooding back. We may never again see Rob Van Dam, Balls Mahoney, Tommy Dreamer or The Sandman as we remembered them, but by listening to that music, I could see them in my mind's eye. (I defy anyone to listen to "Enter Sandman" and not picture that remarkable beer-soaked entrance.)
Music can be a powerful thing.
So I guess ECW isn't really dead as long as we have the music to bring back our cherished memories of the real ECW.
Thanks for reading and see ya next week.
