Chronic X is back like a vertebrae dropping
some sweet Real-Time Review flava on you!
In the crosshairs of the ol' Opinion Rifle is Hard
Knocks: The Chris Benoit Story. This DVD is probably
one of the best WWE has put out so far.
The main program was incredible explaining how Benoit
the Fan became Benoit the Rabid Wolverine. From his
days of training and the day he told The Dynamite
Kid he was going to be just like him to winning the
World Championship at Wrestlemania. There are some
very poignant moments on the DVD (Benoit reflecting
on Owen Hart), some intriguing moments (Benoit "kinda"
explaining the controversy surrounding himself, Kevin
and Nancy Sullivan) and just some outright funny moments
via Easter Eggs (Benoit's Dad explaining how Chris
REALLY lost his tooth). I loved some of the footage
they showed of Benoit's time in ECW when it was obvious
that Benoit needed some extra time in the Promo Department.
Guest appearances included were appropriate and memorable
(Guerrero remembering how Benoit knocked him out in
their very first meeting). There also appearances
by Dean Malenko, Chris Jericho and Booker T. All in
all, it was a very good retrospective on Benoit's
life and career (so far).
This DVD is packed with Extras, Easter Eggs and Matches
that are all worthy views. This is as close to an
"Ultimate" Chris Benoit collection as you
will ever find. Again, my gripe is usually the same.
I want to see more commentary from the wrestlers themselves.
I know why they don't but hey, it would still be great
to hear a lot more in-ring memories as they relive
it.
Without going on and on, you just want to know one
thing, right? Buy or Fly? Well, gentle readers, this
is a MUST BUY. And just so you don't start doubting
ol' CX, I will drop my less savory reviews after I
get done with all the good stuff, so believe me, the
worst is yet to come!
