As a long time wrestling fan, I've been enjoying
many of the DVD collections and biographies that the
WWE has been releasing. It was an easy choice to pick
up their newest DVD that features a retrospective
look at one of the most energetic superstars ever
to grace the ring: The Ultimate Warrior.
The WWE has assembled many people who have worked with (and actually those
who haven't worked with) the Warrior to give their take on the mysterious
superstar. Edge and Christian, for some reason, give their two cents just
as much as Vince McMahon does!
I would have to say that about 80% of the comments made about the Ultimate
Warrior on this DVD are negative. They trash his interviews, they trash his
backstage politics and they slam (no pun intended) his in-ring ability. I
find it quite amusing that there are people on this DVD that question the
Warrior's wrestling ability and then they have Hogan comment on the Warrior.
Hogan has the same, if not less, wrestling finesse as the Warrior. To
Hogan's credit, he is one of the nicest people commenting on the Warrior on
this DVD. HHH comments about the Warrior's backstage antics, and we all
know who makes people mad nowadays backstage. As for the Warrior's
interviews, yeah, they're pretty much out there but when I was a kid, I
still thought it was cool.
One of the biggest Warrior haters on the DVD has to be Bobby "the Brain"
Heenan. There is not one nice thing he has to say about the Warrior and he
comes off as a jealous little man. The same goes for "The Million Dollar
Man" Ted DiBiase. You can tell that he is so pissed off that the WWE did so
much for the Warrior and perhaps not enough for him.
The Warrior refused to take part on this DVD project and has posted his comments
on his own website:
http://www.ultimatewarrior.com/09.27.05DVDII.htm.
There is also a shoot interview that the Warrior did
about the WWE and a recap of what's on it and how you
can order it can be found here:
http://www.warriorcentral.net/shootreview.html.
The bonus matches on the DVD include Warrior's first match on Superstars,
vs. Hogan at WM VI, vs. Rick Rude in a steel cage and vs. the Macho King
Randy Savage at WM VII in a retirement match.
This DVD was a great nostalgic trip for me and I really enjoyed looking back
at one of the WWE's top superstars. There's probably some truth in the
negativity on this DVD but there are two sides to every story and I would
have loved for the Warrior to have been a part of this DVD to tell his tale.
Oh well, I'll have to purchase another DVD to hopefully get the whole
picture.
